can you think well when there's a music playing?

Whenever I surf the internet, I always listen to my favorite tunes so that my surfing will be more pleasurable. But just this day, I noticed that whenever I read a discussion or write a response, I can't really concentrate to what I'am doing because of the music. I can't think well of the words that I'll be typing for my response. I'm just wondering if you also experienced this one. - Ron Reyes www.ronreyes.co.nr

What kind of music? I can't think if the music is hard rock or hiphop because my mind is easily distracted. But with good music such as love songs and songs that i usually play, i'm getting used to it. Sometimes im ignoring the music.

I really don't listen to hard rock and hiphop. Same with RnB and dance music. Like you, I'm kinda irritated to those music.

I've never experienced anything like that. I've had this habit of listening to music while I'm studying so I'm pretty used to it. Infact I cant without music haha I guess that is another cause of concern. Its different for different people. If you cant concentrate then you better avoid it. But let me ask you do you feel distracted while you are listening to music and driving. From what you have said I think you would have. Then again if you do it quite often then you will become used to it.

I'm a music listener for many years now. In fact, when I was still inside of my mother's womb, I already heard the twinkle twinkle little star song LOL. I don't know why I'm still not used to it. I love music but unfortunately, I have to turn it off for awhile when I'm into something like writing a poem, reading a book, etc. I feel like I'm not normal hehe. What should I do?

If I am doing something need intensive attention, I also will be distracted if there is a music around me. But for things that don't need much intensive attention, it's ok to listen the music at the same time. Sometime it also depends on my mood. If I am blue, I don't want to listen the music and perfer to go outside.

Maybe you are listening to music that you really love and instead of making responses you end up singing along with the music or you sing it with your mind unconsciously. I do experience that but very rare and whenever I do I just listen to the music and lout out to mylot cause I know that means my mind want some music for the soul and relax for a bit.

Actually while surfing the net i listen to the music but not all the times i can concentrate, there are times when our brains becomes overloaded so, we cannot concentrate on the things we are doing. Specially when i am studying i need pin drop silence, but the scenario is different here. Because serving the net we don't need much concentration but reading something or doing something really important is different scenario.

i'm the type of person who can't concentrate on two things at the same time. i love music, but i can never listen to music while studying. same goes when i'm using the computer, i can't even surf with music on. i usually listen to music when i'm on the bus or when i'm waiting. that way i don't get distracted. i think the reason behind this is that i usually am listening to the words of the song. sometimes i even sing with it and i can't think of those words when i'm reading or writing something down. things get mixed up.

What kind of musice did you listen to? soft music? There's a study indicates that music helps in thinking and memorising. But of course if you listen to those hard music like techno, it would not help at all and will drag you concerntration away.

Well I listen to almost any kind of music as long as it sounds good to my ears. And I'm definitely NOT a techno fan. When I'm MyLotting, I listen to alternative, pop, acoustic, punk, Christian music. I find this music not really disturbing but still I'm distracted. Why? I really think I'm not normal. :(

This has been happening to me, too. Anything which is a little too noisy, distracts me from what I am doing. I cannot keep track of what I am thinking and what I am trying to write. When the music though is very soft, like the way soft background music is played in movies wherein it is barely audible, that's okay.

I can do surfing well with my music on, but if I want to concentrate, let say I want to write something important then even a smooth music will disturb me. Depends on individual, a friend of mine need music then he can work faster. He even can do work while having conversation!

I like to have absolute silence when I am reading/writing.It was really hard when I was in college because there was never absolute silence anytime.I used to shut my room and still there would be sounds. While using the internet however,I listen to music. Most of the time the TV is on, my daughter keeps watching her favourite cartoons.I cannot shut the tv off now,so I have learnt to work with the sound. This just means that I have to concentrate harder. But on Mylot,it is different because here I have a choice to select discussions of my choice.things become easy when you are interested in something. You could maybe type your response in wordpad or notepad so that you could then edit the response to post in mylot finally.I sometimes do that for another forum where I answer questions.

I think it's a cool idea but it's kinda hassle don't you think? I think it's better if you type directly in MyLot. Besides, you're not into your 500 yet so you can't copy-paste.

Yes i can think well with music in the background infact it helps me think better as it relaxes me and i can think of a practical approach to the problem at hand so yes listeing to music helps and it also does not allow you to get bored with a subject so yes it works for me. As far as your problem you will learn the trade as you grow up and learn with experiences when u have multiple tasks on hand and would like to destress but still work so do not worry about it.

If the songs are the ones that I don't like I don't mind it, but if the songs are the ones that I love singing to, I easily get distracted. There are just some songs that when you hear it, you can't resist from singing or humming it. Too bad I do not have multiple tasking skills :(

music, even though its pleasurable, is still a form of pollution. noise pollution in this case. music is relative. what may be music to me, might be noise to you and vice versa. if you are into the music, it will distract you in one way or the other. its actually pretty normal.. hehehe.. you just have to control and discipline yourself using music in the background. i guess you wont be hearing some metal music knowing that you would have an important examination the following day, right? hehehe..

I can't work at all without music. That's me. Whether it's slow one or techno one, i can only concentrate when the music is on. When it's off, i still able to work but not as good as when it's on. For your case, it's probably you have something more concern in your mind, that's why you can't concentrate at all. It's not the music but your concentration that being split.

Well, I can think much better when music is playing. But it also depend on what sort of music is playing. It should be soothing and good to ears and then I can study and thinking much faster than normal.

Music helps me with everything. i need it to sleep. It helps me concentrate. it keps me going in physical therapy. i find music to be incredibly theraputic and see it as a form of expression and release. It is a beautiful and important art that should be more prevalent in shcools.

I think best when there are a lot of distractions. I was one of those students who studied with the tv and stereo on because if they are not on, I would simply fall asleep. So, to answer your questions, I think best when there is music playing.

It greatly depends to the music there is. When it's acid rock, it's obvious that it wouldnt help anybody concentrate. Light music will just be OK for me. It doesnt affect me much especially when Im into something that Im so determined to finish. However, if I'm 'challenged' with the television, I usually fail in focusing to what Im doing..

In some other times, yes.. but if I really need concentration on what i'm doing, then i'd have to turn off the music that i'm listening to or just tone it down a little. If you're a multi-tasking type of person, usually you can handle this.. thinking while listening to music. But if you're the type who really needs to focus on just one particular thing, then you gotta have to do one thing at a time =)
