What is the treatment for a broken rib or ribs. How long does it take to heal. Should the patient take calcium tablets to aid healing.

There is not much you can do, sometimes it helps to bandage the ribcage but that is just for pain relief, It takes awhile, I'm not sure how long. Take some or give the person some inflammatory tablets

We eventually bandaged him up with 'transact'. It seems to have helped my son quite a bit. I doubt if he will be playing football for a while. Next time he hurtts his ribs I am going to gag him. (oH, he can moan about the pain)

Hi there, I think the ribs are just banded. Something tight is put over the ribs to hold them in place. But it's been years since anyone I have known has broken a rib, maybe it's different now. As far as the calcium, it couldn't hurt. I do know that taking the antacid tums is a good source of calcium.
