Well, I seem to have succumbed to my decennial cold... No, that's not a new strain, or a new swear word-- I usually only get a cold once every ten years or so. My friend has one too, so I can't blame her for giving it to me. Her daughter has a cold, too. We're all at the same stage. So, who did we all meet up with a few days ago? A case for Sherlock Holmes... I've been taking cold meds, drinking plenty of tea, and napping frequently. What is your favorite remedy?

I don't know why but I rarely get severe colds . Maybe because I see all those people at the clinic I get immunity , I can't say . But in the rare occasion when I really come down with body aches , fever and malaise (classical influenza) I usually take a large meal (inspite of not having any appetite ,another feature of influenza) and go to sleep . Usually I wake up the next day feeling great , as simple as that . I also try to avoid staying home as much as possible (!!) , because if you stay in , you are easily convinced that you are still very ill and it will never be over . However going out one's morale is high and the immunity picks up and kicks all those bugs out of the body ! Of course another explanation is that growing up , I had a first-hand experience of what it is like to be REALLY sick , since I had severe asthma that often ended up with me going to the emergency room . So a cold would not be a problem compared to that .

When my head gets too fuzzy, I nap for a couple hours, then get up and do stuff until my head gets fuzzy again, and I nap again... Luckily, as I said, I only get a cold about once every ten years. It's no fun being sick on my own -- no one to bring me tea and oranges.

I use Vicks Vapour Rub and keep putting it on my top lip and throat and chest. The menthol keeps my nose clear and allows me to breath through it instead of through my mouth which makes for a sore throat. Other than that, I just suffer. haha

I put Vicks up my nose when I have nasal congestion, but haven't had it smeared on my chest since I was a child. Yes, we all suffer. We can take cold meds and get rid of our cold in just one week, or we can do nothing and suffer for seven days :o)

My whole family has a cold, I am doing everything in my power not to catch it, although I think evenually I will succumbed to it, but I am hoping not. It is hard, I am the caretaker of everyone sick. I have been doubling up on the fluids, health foods and warm soup, lots of sleep and lots of advil, although I am seeing some relief from some of them, it seems like when I get one feeling better I have another come down with feeling bad, hopefully this will pass soon, as I hope your will too. My sympathies... it's like the commercial "Dr. Mom" Take care of yourself first or you won't be able to take care of the others. My cold has thankfully passed.
