Ever wonder why comedians kill themselves?

There have been various comedians throughout the past few years that have ended up killing themselves. Doesn't it seem ironic that someone who makes so many people laughed can be so depressed on the inside? It seems like they shouldn't feel like killing themselves and instead should be able to cheer themselves up, but I guess they can't! Most recently was Richard Jeni, and I guess he had some troubles but I don't remember what. It just seems like they are the last people in the world who would be so depressed, and yet ironically a bunch of them are more depressed then the average person. What do you think about this? Got any insight or examples on this?

I think that some people use humor to get past their problems. Don't they say that laughter equals happiness? I know that personally, I like to make jokes when I am feeling low. Don't get me wrong..I would never take my own life. I just know that laughter helps. This kind of reminds me of psychiatry. I have noticed that many in this field have a personal issue they cannot resolve, so they help others with issues. Maybe a type of therapy for the...self unresolved. Many use humor to distract themsleves from personal pain. It seems to catch up with them, regardless...sometimes. It is actually very sad.

I think what you said make points. I agree a lot of psychiatrists I've seen on TV tend to say they went into that profession after trying to deal with their own problems. It is sad though, b/c you think the comedian has it all together! They can make a joke out of anything, and a lot of people look up to them b/c they can have fun just joking about anything and everything. Yet when you find out some of them really have deep down problems, it gets depressing :( Well I think most of the comedians I listen to are not depressed just b/c they seem like they don't care what anyone thinks and just say what's on their mind. There's just been these few that I know of where things went bad!
