My 15 year old son was accidentally bitten by our puppy on the right leg when he was playing with it just recently. There was blood and we had to clean it with soap and water. We were so worried of rabies that we took him to the hospital. At the hospital they told us he need to take anti-rabies vaccine because there is blood involved and to be on the safe. The vaccine is not cheap and also he undergone like five vaccine in the span of a month. It is a very harrowing experience and luckily our puppy don't have rabies. For prevention you need to have your dog vaccinated for rabies and be careful when handling dogs. Rabies is a very fatal disease when not handled at early stage. If you had such experience maybe you can share with us.

I have been bitten by a dog not once but twice. I've been a little afraid of dogs ever since. The first time was the weirdest, I was just walking around, minding my own business when there came this stray dog and bit me, just like that. Without even a bark. And then it just went away as silently as it came. Luckily I had some thick jeans on so the skin didn't break, but the whole leg from knee down turned blue. One huge bruise. Imagine that. After a while it cleared but I've never been capable to look at a dog with the same eyes again. And before you ask, I did not provoke it, I haven't even seen it until it came close enough to bit me. And I have no idea what it did that for. I consider myself very lucky that I only got that bruise and there was no need for me to take those anti-rabies shots.

I don't know whether that's true or not because the second time I was bitten I was bitten by a barking dog, LOL. It barked, it barked, and then it bit me. At least this time I got to know what happened, I mean I was walking through a park and the dogs (there were two) somehow considered it their territory, and that's why they attached me. However I'll always wonder what prompted the first dog to bite my like that.

It's therefore true that dogs that don't bark usually bites. You are lucky indeed.

My siblings and I are all scared of dogs, we even bite are tongue when we pass a dog. They say that you will not bitten by a dog by bitting your tongue, well i guess it's true because until now I haven't bitten by a dog. lol. Thanks God. But my mother was bitten my a dog when she was a teenager, that's why she always followed by a dog because they say that one's you're bitten some of their smell (I don't know what they called that) still remains in your body and the dog will know it. I'm not that sure if its true or not.

I never know that. I was also bitten by a dog when I was still a kid. I never noticed if a dog always follow me. I'll try to be more conscious about it. Thanks.

Hello robert!(",) Thanks for sharing your experience with everyone here in mylot. I'm scared when it comes to dogs because I'm afraid to be bitten by one. There was an incidence when my sister and I need to pass the road and there was a dog. I crossed first running then she followed. Unfortunately, my sister was the one bitten by the dog. I was really super scared at that time. Like, what you did, my mother washed it it soap and running water and we went to the hospital. It was very costly because anti-rabies vaccines are very expensive. From that time one, I'm scared to get near dogs. I really wont cross when there is a dog.(",) Better be careful and safe.(",) Have a great day!(",)

Rabies is indeed fatal. Well, for us, prevention is always better than cure. We subject all our 7 dogs for yearly rabies shot. This would create peace of mind among us elders, even when if our kids are playing with our household dogs. Nevertheless, we still are very cautious when getting along with other dogs that are not ours.
