What causes you to give a negative rating?

I have never given a negative rating yet. I was wondering what criteria people use to decide on a negative. I have had a few posts that I just didn't rate, because I didn't want to give them a +. I even saw one person who told everyone what she gave them!! She even told one person that she gave him a negative. I would NEVER do that! I'd be afraid that they'd start rating everything I ever said as neg to ruin my rating.

I have given neg. when a poster was just plain rude. There is no reason for it! I also report violations like one word replies, flaming, copy/pasting, or any other offense. It is part of being a member here. I think that is why this site has made it while so many others have failed.

I usually give negative ratings to posts that are simply a referal link with absolutely no back up information on why the poster thinks that I should check out the site. And I'll give them to posters who ask a question in the subject line but don't bother to take the time to give their opinion on the subject they are trying to get started. And I'll give negatives to people who answer with only one word especially if it's "no" or "i don't know".. I mean, don't bother responding unless you actually have something to say on the subject...

There's a diversity of people here at myLot, so different strokes for different folks. In my case, just like you, I don't rate at all even if the respondent was rude. I think my standard for rating someone negative would be if someone cursed me. Definitely, there's a nil chance that I would report. I would like to be very sure that the member has by all means (and without exception) broken a regulation. As I speak, I haven't rated any respondent to my discussions a negative because even if said respondent didn't agree with my opinion, I still respect his/her opinion, and rather thank that member for taking the time out to reply to my discussion. In my opinion, ratings are supposed to be confidential so as not to wreak havoc among the members. Well, some of the posters are really familiar with their respondents, especially the old members, so they must be comfortable in revealing their ratings. As I've said, different strokes for different folks. Happy myLotting!

Would you give someone a neg rating if their response to your discussion was "I don't care"? I was discussing this in another of my discussions, that someone had a person do this! That's just down right RUDE!! It's like you seeing a groupd of people sitting on a bench talking, and you walk up and butt in to let them know you couldn't care less what they are talking about. Surely you'd give a Neg in this case... right?

I never ever give a negative rating. I don't think one of those ratings should be given simply because they disagreed with your discussion since that is what mylot is all about is getting different opinions on subjects. So therefore you are going to have some people agreeing with you and some not. There are a lot of people here for a person to think that everyone is going to agree with what they say. I have not yet ran across any responses that have cussing in. Now that is a kind of response I would be tempted to rate with a negative. But like you said if you gave a person a negative how do you know that they wouldn't do the same thing to you out of spite.

They wouldn't know unless you told them... which I have seen happen.

I have only gave one negative rating. When the person anwsers with a smart*ss response to a question thats asked, why respond at all. I did felt guilty after I did it and will need a better reason to do it in the future. Byt once it was done, you cant change it so its done.
