Do you have the TV going while on the computer? Multi-tasking or habit?

I've just rearranged my lounge room so I don't have to kink my neck to see TV snippets and news. I don't watch it much but the noise is comforting.

I'm the same and even when I tell myself it is wasting electricity I still do it. The only thing that has stopped me is telling my son to use the tv in the living room where I have my computer, instead of the one in his room, to play on his xbox360. At least this way I don't have 2 tv's and the computer on at the same time.

It does hurt the pocket with the electricity bill, but I still keep it on.

I prefer listening to good music on my music system while i am on the computer esp. when i am on mylot. As musical sounds keeps the mind preoccupied & chilled out and one doesn't feel bored. Though i do check out TV sometimes to catch news, check out comedy stuff. good luck. Happy posting. :)

My comp screen is about 18 inches down and 12 inches to the right of my tv so I can do both at the same time.I find I do not follow completely what is happening on the TV(and with shows like CSI I have to pay attention),I still get the idea of it while doing MyLot or other programs.

It is amazing what you do pick up even if you are only half watching. If I didn't have it on I would miss the news completely cause I don't take time to read it online.

I do all of those things, I guess it all goes down to one. When I know that my favorite tv series is on, I make it a habit to turn on the tv and peak if ever I would get a chance. There's also some time where I only try to listen to it, while focusing my attetion here in the computer. I also try to do multi-taskings, because I believe that these helps me in keeping my mind fresh and take care of other things while in front of the computer.

Yes, technology no matter what it's purpose if for, provides something for us to be more dependent at. And I make sure that I only would use them when I want to, and not because I want to make simplier things be more easier.

Sensesfail just posted a thread about technology making us lazy and I have to agree with that, so anything that makes us think is a good thing.

in the past, i always had my tv runing while using the computer. but then i realized it was a unnecessary habit. i guess it was when i got my electricity bill. so i decided to change this habit. i must say, it is not easy changing a habit. maybe, because we are not really aware of it, till someone is pointing at it. but this situation you posted, is definitly a habit.

I do both. I never have the TV on until my boyfrind gets here. Than it comes on. We watch 'Days of Our Lives' and i am on here at the same time. I miss a bit of the show though, because I get caught up in what is going on in here. I am so behind in my shows!LOL

No not the tv and the pc.They'd make a bad combination. But i do other things while using my computer like listening to some music ,doing a tape to CD conversion, doing recording, ripping a CD,DVD to divx conversion and so on. Sadly i don't watch the Tv at all.I know i sound crazy but i really don't.I'm so glued to the computer always that i don't get to watch it.I'm actually known for my multitasking abilities like i can talk and write at the same time, sleep and dream at the same time,..lol.Just kidding.Forget about it.

To be honest, with the TV - you're not missing anything. Stick with your music world. Statistically it's only on to keep the singles company. And nobody seems to like silence much. Not many meditation moguls, hahaha.

I am connected through a cable modem, and my computer is "TV enabled," so technically speaking I can watch TV ON my computer. I generally choose not to-- it's too distracting to me, and generally I work for a living with computer, so I need to stay focused. Besides, I'm not particularly brilliant at multi-tasking. That said, I do tend to have music playing, at pretty much all times. That I like, and it seems relaxing, rather than distracting... perhaps because there's no visual element involved.

Music has a much better space generally than TV. I guess for some it's seeing people and hearing voices keeps one company. I sometimes need a break from both sounds and when I haven't heard music for ages it's great to put the headphones on and indulge in sound.

Yep, I am watching the TV as I am typing here on mylot. It's the Australia vs England cricket match, as you might already know :).Can't miss a great game of cricket and can't miss my friends for too long either, lol. So, here I am multitasking ,but not getting the feeling of multitasking at all ;-).

If only the Mexican wave was happening - it wasn't, not enough in the crowd, darn! I went to a football match too, just to give it a go, MCG again, have to do it once at least. Big crowd, good and they were much more exciting that the footballers and the game but after a while that got dull as well. Just not my thing.

What can I say, the best of both worlds for you. I have to admit....I can't do the cricket thing. That comes from having 5 brothers and a father obsessed with football and cricket. I personally find it insanely boring. I've tried to like it, I even went to a one day match at the MCG to try and change my standpoint, try to get excited. It didn't happen for me. Have you found the obsessed Indian cricket fans on myLot yet? There are a few.

Tried to get excited,Lol.Nice one, tetchie! If you do the mexican wave, you'd have to try hard to resist the excitement:-D Nah,I try to stay away from the obsessed ones:-P Already have too much passion in my life, lol. At the end of the day ,it's just another sport.

I hate to admit it but the phone is just to my left, my laptop is right in front of me and the TV is in front of me as well, but at the end of the room. Call it multi-tasking...I call it hating to miss anything. lol

Yeah I sometimes turn the TV on whenever I go to mylot but my attention is sort of distracted so as much as possible,I only do thing one at a time and concentrate on doing it because it feels better and you wouldn't feel like a scrambled egg most of the time.

When I'm home alone, I turn on the TV, glance at it once in a while, but don't really watch it. I'm watching Tv/using the compuer right now.

Tetchie - my computer is in the bedroom and the tv is on a wall bracket right above it - and I usually always have it on while I am on the pc! I think in my case it is mostly habit , but you do pick up some interesting stuff! Like you I find the noise comforting - maybe thats cos it drowns out the noise of the kids bickering! lol - just joking! xxx

I watch TV and use computer only when a good cricket match is going. I just want to know the scores and the result. Otherwise I'm only using one thing at a time.
