Our pet bunny "Pixie" was murdered!

We arrived home from 2 days away this afternoon to find our adorable dwarf lop eared bunny had been killed by what we think was a dog. She seemed to be safe out of the weather and any harm, in her cage up under our back steps, but the cage had been ripped open and there was remains of her on our back lawn! It is devastating to my 3 children (and me) I have put up a few different discussions about her and I will be changing my avatar soon as it is a close up pic of our 'baby.' Thanks everyone for reading. It is so sad, like losing a family member and such a senseless loss!

I am so sorry for your loss. Losing a pet of any kind is hard. I feel so bad for you and your kids. That must have been horrible. Hugs to you all. I would like to say something about your avatar. Yes, it might be very painful to see it but someday you may want to use it again. The dog in my avatar is my dog that got killed by a car just about six months ago. I still miss him terribly but I won't change my avatar because its my way of honoring him. Also, here is a website that might come in handy in your time of sadness. http://www.petloss.com/

Thankyou for your kind words Brendalee. I might leave her pic up here for a while as it is such a silly pict that really suited her. I will look at the web link thankyou. Even though she was so small, she really touched each of us in the family.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss your bunny. I love bunnies. It had to be a strong dog to get through that cage to kill your beautiful pet. That is so sad and it must be very hard on you and your kids. Losing a pet is like losing a family member. Do you know who's dog could have done this to her? Will you get another one? I would be upset too if I had a bunny or other pet that got killed by another animal or person.

Thankyou for your thoughts. We are all a bit shocked at the moment. We had had a lovely time away and came home to this horrible scene. My 12yo daughter especially is devastated. We have no idea who's dog it was as there don't seem to be any roaming loose around the area. We think maybe someone's visitor had a dog with them and let it loose as we have had guinea pigs before in the yard and they were fine. It turned out to be not a nice ending to easter. We may get another one later on as she was such a lovely little pet that wouldn't hurt a soul.

Oh my lord! How did the dog get to her? Was her cage in a secluded space or was she there for everyone to see? Did the children see the remains of the bunny? Cause that would be traumatic! I'm not sure I would be able to take something like that!

She was up under the back steps in a quite safe area (we thought). Yes the children saw her remains and it was awful as we just arrived home and they raced over to see her and let her out of the cage. Thanks for responding.

I am so sorry to hear about that. It must have been very disturbing to find. For her cage to be ripped open, that would of had to be a very large/aggressive dog. Once again I am very sorry about your "baby"

Thanks Heleen. Her cage was tipped over onto its roof and the bottom of it had been popped out. She was mostly gone apart from some graphic bits that I can't bear to think about and bits of fur. Very very sad....
