Almost everyone here on mylot, must be celebrating someone's birthday now and then. Indian culture is very different from that of the western. We celebrate birthday by putting 'Tilak' on the forehead, putting sweets in the mouth, etc, etc. But following the western culture many of us have also started cutting cakes and blowing off candles.I agree, that I too celebrate in the same way. But this year, when my son was 4, after cutting cakes I did'nt let him blow off candles. Reason- One of the YOGA specialist Swami Ramdev says that its the special occassion, we wish the person long life, then why do we you create darkness instead of enlightening the house. I was convinced 100%. Is there anyone on mylot who will convince me that blowimg off the candles, is right, or atleast give me the reason behind it?

Well i really don't know exactly why lots of people are keep on practicing this blowing candles in a birthday celebration. I dunno the details about the story behind it. It just like, we do that everytime we asked for a birthday wish then blows the candle. Bydway, why do you have to repost this discussion of yours 3x? Or you just had a problem with your internet browser and you didn't mean to repost it 3x? Cheers and have a nice day ahead from Francis.
