Blitzing MyLot with inane one-line questions .....why?

April 9, 2007 11:37am CST
I have been on here for a couple of hours this afternoon and noticed that there are one or two posters who constantly blitz the place with one-line and pointless questions. Ok I know this is a place for free expression etc., but don't you think that these people are extracting the urine a little? I though this was a place to hold sensible and intelligent discussions, not answer maths questions etc.

I agree with you I have been looking for intelligent discussions to answer to and am finding it hard. I think mylot should make it a rule that when someone starts a discussion you wouldn't be able to post it unless it has at least 3-4 lines. Those discussions you are talking about will most likely be deleted so I tend not to respond to them.

Thanks hun. I thought I was just imagining it but there is someone on here right now blitzing the place. It is very difficult to find any intelligent discussions while this person is spamming the place. Oh well, thank you for your comments at least. :-)

Hey hun, I've found that by sticking to my friends discussions and top discussions of the day that I mostly avoid people like this. They annoy me no end though, it's obvious that they just want to earn more money, but unfortunately, their discussions will be deleted by the end of the month and they will have earned nothing. Oh wait, did I say unfortunately? I meant fortunately :P Just ignore them. They're just a waste of time and space.

LOL - unfortunately it's a bit tricky to ignore when the entire page seems to consist of bull droppings hun *grin*

Well there's always going to be morons online and here is no different. The great part is that even the amount of time they spend creating stupid discussions, etc. will end up making them no money and eventually even closing down their accounts. They're not really hurting anyone but themselves and others who follow.

Oh I definitly hear what your saying hun, this place is really getting bad with postings. I usually just ignore them though and just stay in the discussions my friends have started category and just answer friends because I know they will have sensible and intelligent discussions. Speaking of your discussions are always good ones and I enjoy responding to them :) Keep up the good postings, and maybe it will catch on!

People are extracting the urine a little?" LOL I am laughing out so loud that my plants are giving me weird looks! yeah I agree there are times in the board when there is a extreme dearth of good threads and the ones that are there to talk about are a total loss to our time and energy. I do not give any negative rating but I just steer away from them. Math question would still be good in comparison to the poll surveys that get on the board, who in the world would want to poll in a discussion forum is a thought that captivates my mind endlessly but the answer is a wimpy ppppoouuuff and the question never gets answered but the people do amaze me tiressly with their stupidity!

I know what you mean. There was one of these people in paricular that shot off like twenty new discussions in n hour. Ironically, one of the discussion's titles was something like, 'is it rude when people post discussions but don't come back and comment?'. The ironic part is, tha is exactly ehat she does- it isn't a discussion, it is an orphaned question. Not that all my discussions are Nobel winning material, they aren't by any stretch, but I do enjoy coming back and reading wha people write and hopefully establishing some sort of dialogue.

Thanks hun, at first I thought it was just me being grumpy but it's obvious that there are a lot of these people around.

Do keep reporting such spammers I don't even warn them just give a negative rating to them.Mylot thopugh will catch them on their own too, you need not worry and amazingly these very people claim that mylot payout is too low. funny isn't it. you make the mistake and blame the site for it. I simply skip their discussions, no point in answerting them as they would bring my earnings down too towards the payout time.

Very true, I need my earnings (don't we all) so it's down to the report button for them

What they don't seem to realize is that the majority of these discussion are removed by mylot and any earnings they have made from them is removed also. You'll find these self same people crying that their earnings have dropped and that mylot is ripping them off when it is actually the exact opposite.

I too have seen a couple of people trotting out dozens of inane statements one after the other...more than just a line or two but pointless and bland just the same. What am I supposed to do with that? Mind you, I'm a bit envious that they can come up with anything even if it is rubbish. I'm certainly not able to respond to it that's for sure.

I reached a point yesterday when I wanted to shut down completely and go read a book instead. :-) At least this morning there are some lovely people here *waves to you* LOL

maybe its how they create a discussions here..i have to read it before i could exactly comment on it..
10 Apr 07
Sorry, I don't think this is the way to create a discussion. Asking things like "why colour eyes" and maths homework questions don't exactly promote healthy and intelligent discussions. Thanks for your comments.

I am so in agreement with you! I don't mind seeing someone doing it once in awhile but I have been noticing more and more of the same people starting one line discussions and it' sreally getting on my nerves. I had one of my freinds start 24 discussions jin one day and every single on of them are one liners .he never even responds to the any one who answers his discussions nor does he answer any of mine. I usually delete friends who are ignoring at the end of the month so I think he's going to be one of them. I also just tried the new members and you should see all the one liners.

I have noticed that too. Do they get paid by myLot for ding that. To me they are nothing different than spams. It would be unfair if the are paid for such postings. I hope myLot would notice that and take the necessary action.

I've seen that too and I find it very frustrating to have to wade through a ton of nonsense to find good discussions to respond to. My time is limited here and I really don't want to waste it searching for quality posts. Thanks for the info on reporting them, I will do so. I noticed that it is the same few people who do this, I guess because they think they will make more money doing so. They don't really contribute anything to the community though, I don't see them responding, unless I just missed it. Maybe they only respond to other one-liners. LOL

They are trying to make more money but myLot only pays you if you post longer questions and answers. everything you write should be about 3 or more lines long. so really it is a waste of there time.

These people should be reported. Most of the time they are copied from other message boards and the subject and the question/discussion are the same. These folks probably do not know English, but I cant generalise that to all such discussions. Few are genuine though as the question is brief and to the point but most are just efforts to start a lot of discussions as soon as possible and increase earnings

Unfortunately the culprit from yesterday was perfectly capable of understanding English, and the carpet bombing of the discussion lists was beyond belief. Reporting is the only way.

I know what you mean and they are very aggravating. Another thing I have noticed is someone gives a link to a particular web site and then posts a dozen more discussions with different titles but all going back to the same link. No questions nothing that one could possibly discuss or even be able to give a response.

I thought it was me just being a grumpy old thing :-) I guess I will stick wth tried and trusted friends, but it is a shame that the good posters have their topics pushed off the page by a pile of rubbish.

I haven't checked the hot topics in weeks, so maybe that's why I haven't seen too many of the ones you mentioned. The one-line answers that don't have anything to do with questions I ask annoy me, but I've only given negative ratings 2 or 3 times, and they were for things that were downright hateful. Am I too nice? "Extracting the urine" is so descriptive! I'll be looking for an opportunity to say it. Thanks!

LOL - I thought "extracting the urine" was a lot more polite than "taking the p......."

I compelety agree with you. They must not yet understand this site works of intelligent/interesting posts and topics where you get rewarded by making an effort. I hope to god they dont get a single cent from what they are doing and discourage them from doing it. Ps- I love the crazy crab gif and ive stole it. MWuahahahahahahHA!
10 Apr 07
LOL - help yourself to the crazy crab hun. One of the culprits has around 375 posts, so they are not exactly newbie I suspect, more greedy.

Yes, this is becoming more and more comman I notice. I posted this question when I guy named Mitsubishi spammed the "people" topic with near 50 high school questions. I call them spammers, and I pray they just don't ruin the site. I am trying to get people started in once a day looking to see if you see a spammer, and report abuse on him a few times. That is the only real way to get them booted. IF they even get booted. O well... they won't ruin my time here, I have friends that I responde to, way too much to even search for discussions half the time, anyways.

Sometimes looking for intelligent discussions is like looking for a needle in a haystack. I have observed this myself and I think people are different priorities (i.e. quantity over quality). Also, I think there may be a little bit of a language barrier as for many, English is not their first language. There are also a lot of repeat questions like "coke or pepsi" which garner top spots under today's discussions or hot topics. I would love to find more topics I could actually sink my teeth into so you raise a very interesting point.
10 Apr 07
What gets to me so much is the blatent "carpet bombing" with so many pointless and inane topics, obviously in the hope of earning big bucks for no effort. Hopefully today will see more intereesting topics. Thanks for your comments hun
