Turn off your cellphones?!

Turn off your cellphones? Is that what your professors tell you before the term or class starts? Well, some do. I don't know why they want students to turn it off when they can place it in silent mode. I do this because I might receive important calls. The only problem is if you forget to do it and your cellphone suddenly rings inside the classroom. And the professor will get mad at you. What can you say about this? Does this apply to all countries?

Our professors dont tell us to turn off our cellphones while in class, but out of our respect to them, we either turn it off or set it to silent mode.. I think getting the phone to silence is enough... However, there are some students in our university who do not turn their phones off, but I hadnt seen that our teacher got mad... Lucky them, maybe...

well i my class, why not i can say in my college we put our phone on silent when we enter college premises and thats what the management expects from us... still there are some rebellions (lol)... there are some professors who accept that everyone has cellphone and sometimes mistakes happens that we will forget to put them on silent mode.... we respect them and appreciate them. but some proffessors are there who take the phone to their custody and keep it for months and dont return it... you wont believe worst cases has taken places in our college... there was a military man recruited as professor... he used to put the cell phones inside salt water.... there is man in mechanical department, he'll throw the cell phone out of window whether its ground floor or fourth floor... if you ask me, we all know cell phone has become a like food in everyone's life... let us accept the truth and welcome students with cellphone... i agree we should turn off the tones during the class hours, but we should have the freedom to attend important calls even in college premises....

Cell phones do not belong in the classroom. Perhaps a student could store it in his/her locker while in class. It would be too much of a distraction to have tons of cell phones ringing and occupying kids' attention while the teacher is trying to teach. When people forget to turn them off, yes, it's very annoying and mildly disruptive. But adults aren't the only people who have emergencies, or who need to be accessible at all times, and I think it's idiotic to say that just because someone is in school, that they don't. I think cell phones should be allowed in school, especially when teachers are allowed to have them.Cell phones should be allowed on before, and after school hours. Students might need rides home from school or sporting events. A student may decide to stay after school and get some help with his or her studies and might have to call their mom or dad to let them know.

Other professors do for one reason so the class will not be interrupted by someone's call, text message receive, and miscall. I believe it's just fair enough so everybody in the class will understand the lessons, topic while the prof is discussing or explaining. It's just for your own good, for your paying your tuition fee that much and you deserve to learn a lot. Don't get them wrong. You can use your cellphone outside the class not inside, be considerate and respect others.
