This is a file I keep posted on several groups and I figured I'd put it up here for discussion as well. If you have any stories to add let me know. I'll add it and maybe we can prevent someone else from suffering the same thing. --------------------------------------------------- This is a list of some of the more "UN"popular scams , I post this for the general publics information so they can avoid them. Don't try to use these yourself, "YOU WILL GET REPORTED". 1. I'M FROM JAGEX, GIVE ME YOUR PASSWORD FOR A GREAT SURPRISE. The surprise is that you loose everything you have, possibly even your character. Jagex already has your password on file, they don't need to ask for it. 2. ITEM DUPERS , FREE ITEMS AND LEVEL MODIFYING PROGRAMS. They don't really exist. All these scams require your give them your password and bank pin so they can give you these great benefits, Instead they steal you blind. *** Don't fall for someone saying it worked for them, its easy to make another email or runescape account just to promote a scam or they may have partners. 3. ARMOR TRIMMING This ones a classic. They tell you they can trim armor if you give them yours and then logg off with it. Armor "CANNOT" be trimmed , trimmed armor is found on the treasure trails by members and can then be sold to non members. Usually for several hundred thousand gp. 4. FREE GEM CUTTING Another one where you hand them something only to see them disappear. If you don't know them well enough to trust them make sure they trade you a cut gem for your uncut , nobody looses that way. Most trustworthy crafters have completed jewlry they can trade for your supplies. 5. TRUST GAME I'll give your this if you prove you trust me by letting me hold something. These guys should never be trusted , they log off with your item. 6. I CAN TELL YOUR FORTUNE They ask you a series of question's , often sliding your recovery questions in amoung them, to determine your fortune. Which inevitably is that you loose everything and your character. Mess with them a bit and give them some outrageous answers before you report them. 7. BAIT AND SWITCH They're selling noted rune items, but when you go to trade them they deline and then say "Sorry misclicked, trade again" this time they put up a noted mith item instead of the rune hoping you won't notice the difference ( they look similar when noted ) and continue the transaction, Always check your second screen before completing your trade. 8. OOPS, MISCLICKED WHILE TRADING The next time they trade they leave off 2 zero's on what their paying you and hope you don't catch the change. Once Again, pay attention to the second screen before you accept. 9. TRADE ME IN THE WILDERNESS The wilderness should be the clue here. They lead you out and trade you four mystic tops then attack you so you drop the abyssal whip you brought with you. For some reason the game values a mystic top more than the whip which actually sells for much higher so you end up droping it when you die. ** Similar version uses another player to drop 4 dragon longs in an area of the wilderness the scammer is leading you to. 10. COME CARRY MY FISH They give you a candle and lead you into lumbridge swamp dungeon to carry the fish they catch. Then have you jump over the river ( which you don't have to cross to get to the fishing spot ) and you fall in and your candle goes out. Without a light you die quickly and they clean up. 11. ZAMMIE WINE A scammer tells you that Zammarok wine is worth 100k, its not. At the most is sells for 1k. He leads you to the Zammarok church and sends you in to get it then slams the door. When you attempt to grab the wine all he mages attack you. You try to run but each time you try to open the door your "partner" slams it shut. With the mages blasting you and the door being closed you cant escape and die. The scammer then walks in and picks up everything you drop. 12. LETS GO TO MY FIGHTING RING "Come into my parlor said the spider to the fly". They take you into their house, challenge you to a fight in their ring, and leave you almost dead as you leave their house. Then offer you a poorly cooked kwambi which poisons you and you die. Watch out for poorly cooked food offered in dangerous situations. Kabobs can be dangerous as well. 13. DOWNLOAD THIS ADD-ON TO RUNESCAPE It may be an autominer ( also illegal ) or it may actually do nothing but add a keylogger to your computer. Watch out for downloads like these, not only can they steal your character, they can steal your credit card information and identity. These are true hackers. The only safe downloads are from jagex themselves and can be loaded from their site. 14. RATE MY BANK Download this pic of my bank and tell me what you think. Problem is your bank just got added to his because the pic or file has spyware attached. 15. VALUABLE RARE ITEMS FOR SALE Don't coun't on some item you've rarely seen to actually be rare or valuable. New items are often introduced and during the first days after their appearence many players get way overcharged for them. Tyra's helm for example has stats roughly 1/3 that of rune and costs about 3.5k from the shop and people are trying to resell them for 100k just because their new and look cool. Do your research before you buy. 16. THE DOUBLETEAM As you walk through town you see one guy selling beads way overpriced at 5k each. When you reach the bank you find his buddy buying beeds for 20k. Thinking "Easy Money", you run back and buy the bead only to find his buddy won't trade you. Yep, you just bought a bead worth 5gp for 5k and your stuck with it. They may try using other things with a little more value so the scams not so odvious but they'll always way overcharge you. Watch for this situation. 17. CAN I BORROW THAT FOR A WHILE You may think its your friend your giving it to but it could be a hacker using your friends account to steal. High priced items can be very tempting as well so even an old "friend" can turn to the darkside. Even if they really do intend to return it, do you want to risk them losing it to dying or getting hacked/scammed. If you can't afford to loose something, don't loan it out. 18. SELLING THIS ACCOUNT You give them the money, they give you a password that may/may not work. They may let you keep the account for a few days then use the recovery questions to take it back just to sell it to someone else. It could have been a stolen account in the first place and Jagex Is about to take action. So many ways this could go bad, besides just being aginst the rules its just not a good risk. 19. THE ALT-F4 DUPLICATOR A scammer tells you to drop an item then press Alt-F4 to duplicate it. Instead your web browser shuts down, logging you out and leaving the item for the scammer to pick up.

all very good, and i knew of them all (but i have played for a very long time). 11 is no longer applicable though, as jagex have fixed it so the door stays permanently open, allowing for those who have been taken there on a scam to be able to leave. but i only know about these scams because someone was very nice and shared the info with me, so hopefully this will help others :D

Watch out for barrows scammers. i got scammed out of 9.2 mil because someone was selling full guthan and instead of putting up the guthan spear he put up a leaf bladed spear. make sure to look over everything before you trade.

That's the point. To make sure people recognize them so they don't fall for them. I should also add a new one where they use the german servers so you can't understand what the text says.

vey informatie. scammers never learn. they try the same thing over and over again. you did miss a few scams like the one where the employer asks a worker to let them "borrow" wat ever it is they are mining or collecting. THe employer says he or she will count it as double or something like that then never pay anything and run off with your hard earned items
