I started giving my son a teaspoon of rice cereal in his bottle about a month ago. It has helped him settle down a bit (not eat as often) and sleep through the night. He eats (6 oz with 1 teaspoon rice cereal) at about 9:00pm and will sleep from 9:30ish to about 6:00ish am. When did you start feeding baby? did you put cereal in their bottle or use a spoon? What first food did you give them. i ahve always given carrots first.

My sons first pediatrician told us to try cereal at four months (we "fired" her). I tried it, he hated it so I waited until he was closer to 6 months and started him on veggies. I think the first veggie was green beans. I always fed him by spoon. It's advised to not put cereal in a bottle, it could hinder the baby on learning how to eat by spoon and the baby could choke.

I have never heard that cereal in a bottle could make a baby choke! None of my children have had nay problems learning to eat with a spoon, but then agian they are pigs (LOL)and love to eat!

I started giving my baby food at 5 months. I started her with bananas. Then she has had avocados, sweet potatos (her favorite), rice ceral and baby oatmeal. She only gets fed by a spoon because she does not drink bottles.

My son never liked formula nor baby cereals. I gave him mashed potatoes at 6 months and introduced "ground" rice and vegetables at 7 months. At 12 months, he was eating whatever we were eating. He loves carrots, peas, beans, potatoes and corn. He prefers fish and chicken to pork and beef. Now, 15 months, he's showing signs of wanting to feed himself with a spoon. He's still taking my milk, too.

I think you can start at six months, but I could be mistaken. I believe you can thicken their formula with powdered oatmeal at first, then move on to things like cream of wheat.
