NAPLES, Italy (UPI) -- An Italian woman discovered a World War II grenade in a bag of potatoes purchased in a market near Naples. The woman, 74, discovered the lemon-sized U.S.-made explosive while washing the potatoes Wednesday, ANSA reported. Bomb experts said the device, which was detonated in a controlled explosion by police, could have exploded if the woman had dumped it into the pot with the potatoes. Police said the grenade was covered with so much dirt that potato pickers may have confused it with a spud.
