What time does it get dark where you live?

Ireland has a latitude ranging between 51 and 55 degrees north. Already in mid April, it is only getting dark at 9 PM. During the height of summer, it is still as bright as day at 10 PM, and only as we near 11 PM does it become dark. Even then, during the summer, the nights can be described more like twilight than darkness. I had forgotten how surprised I had been about this until I had visitors from the United States and they were commenting on it. What about you, what time does it get dark where you live? What about in the summer months?

well, now is may and here in Holland it's getting dark at round 9.30 pm. During the summer almost the same as your country...it will become dark round 11 pm. And it is always pretty difficult for me and my daughter to get some sleep when it is still bright outside. Even so, we are happy when summer comes....I'm not really quite fond of when it's cold and dark outside. Prefer warm sunny summer days...

Here in Singapore, it'll start to get dark at about 7 PM throughout the year as we live very near to the equator. There's more daylight here in Singapore. I was staying in Scotland for about a year and I did noticed that in Summer the daylight was pretty long and it didn't really get that dark like when it's winter...

Hello seamonkey. Here in the Philipines, sunset is usually at 5:30 - 6:00. Sometimes earlier. Other times later. It depends on the season. Your country has lots of daylight time I see. Sunset at 10PM now that is amazing to me. What time does the sun rises? Thanks and have a nice day.

I am also surprised after knowing it from you. People who live in Ireland then get a long daytime. In our locality , it becomes dark at 6 O'clock in summer. But in the winter season, even at 5'O'clock night comes.

I live in India. India is a tropical country and fortunately we have all the three seasons per annum, namely Winter, Summer and Rainy Season. All the seasons are from moderate to heavy depending upon the location. As you know India is a big Country with about 30 states in it.The physical features of the Country also varies greatly from North to south and from East to West. Because of this reason we have variation in the season from place to place! The Seasons are extreme in the Northern part of the Country with severe Cold in Winters and severe heat in the Summers. In the western and Eastern parts the Summersa are bit hot but the winters are quite moderate! Rain fall here is good! Same way in the southern part of the country rain fall is good but other two seasons are moderate! Noe coming to the point , about the darkness, I stay near by Deli which is situated in the Northern part of India. We are copmparitively closed to Himalaya Mountains and because of that we have severe winter. In winters we have darkness as early as at 6.00 pm in the evening, If the weather is foggy then we may have darkness even earler say by 5.30 pm. In Rainy season also if it is raining we may likely to have darkness aroung 5.30 - 6.00pm. In summers however we have light till 7.00 and some times even till 7.30 pm . There after it becomes darker. In summers we have early Dawn also. By 5.30 in the morning we have a bright sun in the Sky! I think I am fortunate enough to live in such a country where I get an opportunity to enjoy all the seasons ! Thanks for inititaing such a nice topic and Wish you best of Luck!

Well here it starts getting dark, around seven pm. it is that late because the clock was removed about two weeks ago. But it is astonishing what you described right now, about Ireland, and the fact that it is getting dark this late, i never know that.

Around 7-8pm usually. By 8pm, it should be rather dark already. But we have street lamps everywhere in Singapore - so the place is still pretty well lit enough at night.

Hi there! In Switzerland here, it doesn't get dark till around 8:30 right now. During summer it doesn't get dark till near 10:00 pm! I am originally from America, and in Massachusetts where I am from, it never got dark this late. I suppose the sun is closer to the hemisphere here? We do change clocks, but even during winter, it didn't get dark till around 5:00pm when we changed the clocks and hour back. The it moved up to about 6:00 before changing the clocks an hour ahead. Greets!

Well, I have moved just over a year ago to a different part of the states. So, I am still learning it here. I can say that what I have observed...the sun starts to go down here now, Spring, at about 7 pm. Now, of course it is not dark...just the sun is slipping and the darkness is growing. Come summer...it will be later. Allowing the kids to want to play outside until 8 pm. But come the winter...it starts to get dark around 6 pm. We are also on the Daylight Saving Time. So I think that also helps to confuse us as to what time it is getting dark. But for it not to get dark until 11 pm??? Wow! Talk about my kids wanting to argue with me about going to bed then!!!
