Do you have a beautician's school near you? There is a school close to my mother's home and she goes there for her hair styles and cuts. It costs her something like $3 to get her hair cut, or $5 for a wash and set. It is $15 for a permanent wave or a coloring. It seems like it is pretty much at cost as a means for the students to get practical experience.

I'd be afraid I would get the one person who was failing! A lady came back from a long weekend. I think she got frosted, and it looks horrible! I have just avoided the subject because it was her daughter who did it! eeekkks MY honestly tends to get me into trouble! D: )

it sounds like Anne might have the same kind of luck as you! I had a place ruin my daughter's hair once. Had to go elsewhere to have it corrected. To top it off the woman was most abrupt and unkind. my daughter was 4.

I love kids that age. My hubby says I have a four year old magnet inside of me. They will just start talking away to me. I'm so sorry she was treated badly. People can really suck at times! My son went to a barber once and they cut his ear. That was the last time too!

oh, that is a nice idea. I am sure the geriatric residents also like to have the contact and pampering from the students.

I used to live by one years ago. I always was afraid to go to them. I know they are learning, but I wouldn't want a "mistake" happening to my hair. And you are basically told flat out they are not responsible for any mishaps. I had a woman cut my sons hair so horribly once, I was in tears. She then proceeded to tell me that I didn't explain it well enough and it was my fault. And of course she WAS the manager when I asked for one. I went home and shaved the poor boys head !!

oh dear! your poor kid. How very unprofessional of the "manager" so much for the old adage the customer is always right, huh?

I went to technical school where there was a beauty school there as well. They did all of those. I always saw a lot of people going in and out of the classes on certain days they offered these services. it is a very popular idea. one that I haven't thought of in years. Thanks for posting this. I do need to get a hair cut and I can't afford the regular salon prices and I should try to see if there is one here locally!

Yea there's a beauty school in my area. I'm not sure if I completely trust the students to cut my hair since it's just practice for them. I know it's pretty cheap though. I think it's like $7 for a cut here. Not sure on prices for a permanent or color. It is good for them to get practical experience but not on my head. I don't want it to turn out to be a mess.
