Carpeted Bathroom?

The other day I went over the my friends house I noticed that his bathroom floor was carpeted. I asked him about it and he said it wasn't a big rug, they decided to carpet it. To me this sounded quite strange, since I have never seen a bathroom that was carpeted before. I thought that all the water from the shower, sink and toilet would ruin the carpet but I guess not. Please share your thoughts. Do you have a carpeted bathroom? Is it a good idea? Is it sanitary?

I used to own a mobile home that had a carpeted master bathroom. In fact most mobile home master baths I have seen are mostly carpeted. I didn't like it at all. I too think as you do and think the water from showering or bathing, a toilet overflow or such would not be sanitary or convenient. I would never have a carpeted bathroom again personally.

We just bought a house in november that has two bathrooms and they are both carpeted,as we have been busy painting all winter so we have not had time to get the carpet removed yet. i also think it is unsinatary,so untill we have time to get it out we do use throw rugs that i can launder every few days. I truly think it must be about the most unsaniyary place in the house.

Personally, I would Never carpet my Bathroom. It just does not sound like it would be a Great idea unless you had a way to protect it to keep it from getting too wet, and then moldy smelling. But I guess there are probably quite a few who do it. I just think it would look better to leave it uncarpeted, or use a Large rug like we do.

I saw alot of this when we were looking for a house in Pittsburgh. I don't think it is the best idea. One house that we looked at had SHAG in the bathroom. It was orange, green, and yellow and it smelled! I think it is very easy to get mildew under the carpeting.

a carpet rag will do but definitely not a permanent carpet. i think this will oonly cause the bathroom to smell and all those icky stuffs will be stuck to the carpet. definitely not advisable.

We have a bathroom upstairs and also a WC downstairs and have carpets in both of them. We have a bath mat infront of the bath to step onto when you get out of the bath so the carpet doesn't get wet and also a mat around the toilet to catch any mishaps, these are washed/laundered regularly so no problems there with hygiene. I suppose it is just what I am used to as we always had carpet in the bathroom when I was growing up.

I would not want my bathroom carpeted for the reasons you said. What if the toilet was to overflow or the sink, bathtub ect. Then it woudl be hard to clean and you might have to get a new rug due to the dirty water from the toilet if it would leak or overflow.I would have cartpet in rooms and frontrooms but not the dining room, kitchen,or bathroom.I put lay down rugs made for a bathroom to put into the bathroom that way if something leaks on it or overflows I can wash it in hot water and let it hang dry. Some people might like it in the bathroom but carpet in the bathroom for me is a big no no.
