A friend and I have been discussing that it might be fun to do a podcast, but we have no idea where to start! Can anyone share what kind of equipment and software we would need? Thanks!

You just need a microphone, a computer capable of recording your voices. You could check out http://podomatic.com. They offer free hosting of podcasts a nice way to start.

Don't forget that you can also do vodcasts (video podcasts), if you so desire. The video editing software that I use is all specific to the OS X environment (Apple), but I'm sure Adobe or Roxio makes some very good PC alternatives. You don't need a fancy camera to experiment. You can use a cheapie webcam, but you get what you pay for, as is usually the case.

I also would like to do podcasts but want to find the cheapest, preferably free way to do it. I don't even own an ipod anymore, broke the first one and lost my other one yesterday. Anyway...good question I am going to read through the responses and see if I find some great info to use.
