I have just read the article and, while I don't condone stealing, I do understand his point. If you, say, go and steal a tv or something then that's wrong without a doubt and should be punished as there is no excuse. However, if you steal food because you have no other way of feeding your family, there should be leniency and HELP there for people in that situation. And I do agree that stealing ... |
 | pumpkinjam responded to a discussion called What do you like in a baby-sitter? in people. 1 month ago
Personally, I have only ever had a babysitter who wasn't family for my kids once and that was someone I already knew well and I don't recall being babysat as a child by anyone other than family either. However, I used to babysit as a teenager and I was a fairly popular babysitter. I assume it was because I didn't charge much! Well, of course people could trust me and I did build a reputation af... |
 | pumpkinjam responded to a discussion called Are people as small minded as they appear to be in thinker. 3 weeks ago
Unfortunately I know quite a lot of people like that. It's not quite so bad if, a) I didn't know that I was right or b) if there was actually a chance, the tiniest reason why the other person might possibly be right.
Of course, I am right all the time, no matter what because I said so and, as a mother, "because I said so" is a perfectly reasonable and rational reason for KNOWING that you're ri... |
 | pumpkinjam responded to a discussion called Horrid Hair in cosmetics. 2 weeks ago
I once tried that when I was about 14. It was a rebellious act because Mum wouldn't let me do something. However, it annoyed me before it bothered her! My hair has always got greasy quickly. It's not so bad now but when I was younger, I could wash it and five minutes later, you'd think it had been soaked in chip fat! I heard that leaving it would make it "clean itself" but it definitely didn't ... |
 | pumpkinjam responded to a discussion called Just a Minute in internet. 2 weeks ago
I don't know how long a minute really is, I know it can vary. And I am guilty of saying "just a sec" to my children when, of course, I will be more than a second. My son has invented a new time measurement called a Granddad which can be anything from literally one minute up to several hours because when he asks his Granddad to do something, he will answer "yes, in a minute" but often that "minu... |
 | pumpkinjam responded to a discussion called PJs on - off to the stores in shopping. 7 days ago
I don't get "dressed up" to go shopping. Actually, I don't tend to get dressed up much at all for anything! However, I dress respectfully and appropriately. I am also with the supermarkets on this one. It is not appropriate to go shopping in your pyjamas. Isn't that like indecent exposure or something? But then again, I should think some are still more covered up than others who are "dressed" i... |
 | pumpkinjam responded to a discussion called Is your butcher independent in steak. 7 days ago
I used to get meat from the supermarket because it was cheaper and easier. Then we started using an independent city centre butcher who was nice. He was more expensive though. But then, when I got my car, we found other places where you knew exactly where the meat came from because the butcher's shop is on the farm. We found one who was really nice and actually a lot cheaper than the supermarke... |
 | pumpkinjam commented in a discussion called Guilty until proven innocent?. 2 months ago I think you're right there. The court were surprised when I pleaded not guilty because they hadn't had any information regarding the case before asking me to attend. Even though it was clearly stated to them that there was no evidence, I was still asked to go back because I didn't know why their "witness" had picked me out. That's the basis of their case. |
 | pumpkinjam commented in a discussion called Guilty until proven innocent?. 2 months ago As I said to someone earlier, there is no way I can afford a lawyer. I don't know if this might go against me as obviously a lawyer knows more about the laws than I do. However, my family and I have been doing a lot of research and have reached the conclusion that the case shouldn't have gone to court in the first place according to law (and common sense!) and that it's now a case of harassment... |
 | pumpkinjam commented in a discussion called Guilty until proven innocent?. 2 months ago As I mentioned to someone previously, I have given all the information I possibly can to prove that I was not there. The police appear to have ignored this and are basing the case entirely on hearsay from "witnesses" who have given false statements. Obviously the police don't realise they're false but had they actually read them, they might notice that they don't make sense. And, if they bother... |
