 I have been a linux user for years. The basic idea of linux is not that new It is based on the old unix os that was harder to use for the average.
The newer linux os is what most of you are referring to so use it does have a lot of new ideas.
and yes it is free to use.
I like open source because I like free software and I can chnaged it to work with my personality.

Other versions Mandiva,(use to be mandrake) Slax, Pupppy linux kubuntu and many others can be down loaded from the internet, then installed on the hard drive, or accessed from a CD. man |
