I had a similar problem - I used to just smile and say "every meal is like a birthday party in this house, i don't think i could cope with more kids in the house" But I would still give them a special birday meal and a cake with candles. you could just let each child invite just one or two special friends around on their birthday for a nice meal together

i have heard this about lentils - if you add the salt at the beginning they won't soften. So if I am ever making lentil soup I always wait until the lentils have softened before I add any seasoning
