Do people still use tea kettles? Or am I just weird? |
Ok I know this is an odd question for me but I was curious. Do people still use tea kettles to boil water for tea or coffee or even soup? I do!! I could very easily fill a big microwave safe measureing cup with water and nuke it till its steaming hot BUT I dont. I just DONT! So this makes me curious as to what everyone else does. Do you use a tea kettle? Do you nuke your water? How do you boil your water for instant hot beverages or soups?

1. judyt00 (2726) | 2 years ago | I do most of the time for tea and when I am making a jelly or other dessert that calles for boiled water. I find that tea and Jello just taste better when the water is brought to a boil in the kettle rather than in the microwave.

zukepr (11373) | 2 years ago | Exactly! It just tastes better! LOL I dont know why it does because its all water and water should taste like water no matter how you boil it but somehow, in my mind from the kettle tastes better.

2. brokentia (7843) | 2 years ago | Yup, it is official. You are a fruit loop! LOL Just kidding!!!! LOL Seriously though, yes, I have a tea kettle. And yes, I do use it. However, I have not been using it as of lately. Lately, I have been taking the lazy road to filling the coffee mug with water and popping it in the microwave. But that is the only time water is being heated in the microwave. When I need water for a Cup-o-Puddles...we use the tea kettle. When I need water for my art supplies (Ukrainian Edd Dying baths)...I use the kettle. I think using the kettle is actually better than microwaving because the microwave does not bring it to a boil. When water boils, it is ridden of impurities. So, even if tap water is considered "safe"...boiling the tap water will just make sure that it really is safe. Which, I am sure that it would probably make it taste better. So, maybe I will have to try it with my coffee since I have only recently started drinking coffee. Oh! And ridding the water from these impurities also creates far better quality egg dye baths.:) If I did not use the kettle and boil the water, my dyes would be ruined within a few days.

zukepr (11373) | 2 years ago | LOL Yes I know i am a fruit loop! So are you my dear! LOL "Cup-o-Puddles" ummmm.... spelling sweetie. LOL For those of you who dont know, a cup-o-poodles is one of those cups of instant Ramen type noodles. And yes purer water equals better tasting water.
| |
brokentia (7843) | 2 years ago | ha ha That is so messed up that I even spelled that wrong! hahahahaha I am glad that you know what I am talking about.:) And just for you, I went and used my tea kettle, made it whistle, and the dogs bark because of it. ha ha But it is too hot to tell if there is a difference between 90 seconds in the microwave and cigarette time outside. ha ha
| |
zukepr (11373) | 2 years ago | My dogs hate it too. I have actually learned to imitate that whistle and drive my dogs nuts all day long. hehe

pyewacket (8866) | 2 years ago | Oh my you got me cracking up here tia...and I needed a good laugh..cup of puddles...I like that..you just invented a new food...LOL--I use cup of puddles all the time myself--I know I know..it's cup of noodles...like puddles better though;)
| |
brokentia (7843) | 2 years ago | ha ha Well, it was supposed to be a Cup-o-Poodles. ha ha But I get so lost in my head at times and use the wrong word that it came out Puddles. ha ha Its a mirgaine thing. LOL Glad I was able to make you laugh. I am surprised that Zukepr is not laughing all the time at me. ha ha But she has grown used to me messing up and knows what I am saying.:) Which is why she could lovingly laugh and correct my error. ha ha But hey, if you like Cup-o-Puddles...that works too. ha ha:D

arcadian (479) | 2 years ago | On another post someone pointed out that the noodles need to be rinsed after boiling(cup o' puddles He He)and fresh boiled water added before making the broth becaause of the was coating on the noodels. SSeemed like a loot of bother, but I did it when I made spaghetti the other night using boxed pasta- and it really tasted great. What a difference. So- You boil the water for the noodles-do all that same as normal, but fill the tea kettle and boil that as well. Drain the noodles, rinse and return to pot with the tea kettle water for the last few minutes- wow what a difference. PS Zukepr- yes you are weird, butit only makes you more lovable
| |
arcadian (479) | 2 years ago | Sorry- if I only learned to type- its wax coating on noodles- and its not just on ramen but all of them.
| |
zukepr (11373) | 2 years ago | OK Arcadain- I need to point out here that a cup-o-poodles is the stuff in the styrofoam cup with the flavor powder in it. So if you rinse these you will loose all the flavor. I think you were actually talking about the regular Ramen noodles in the dry packet with a seperate seasoning packet.

brokentia (7843) | 2 years ago | Hey! I just realized that a cup of MUD is coffee right? LOL So, if I call it a cup-o-puddles...shouldn't that be a small coffee with not too much coffee in it....since mine is mostly milk and Splenda anyways? LOL Hey, a cup-o-puddles sounds good right about now. hehe

4. Penguinsangel (2795) | 2 years ago | I do still use a tea kettle for making hot tea, oatmeal and other instant soups and what not(which I don't have that often) but we use our tea kettle a great deal in the winter, not so much in the warmer months

5. Denmarkguy (1425) | 2 years ago | I use a kettle on the stove pretty much anytime there's tea to be made. When it's not actually being heated to a boil, it sits (at least in the winter) on top of the propane stove, offering a little humidity to the air... and then it also stays "almost hot" for when it is needed for tea. The only time I use the microwave to head liquids would be for soup that has gone kinda cool in the bowl, if I got distracted while eating it.

6. Ayreish (366) | 2 years ago | My husband and I use an electric kettle to boil water for teas, hot chocolates, instant soups, and many other things that call for boiled water. My mother still uses one of the stove-top kettles to boil water for her tea. I don't think we've ever used the microwave to boil water.
| |
| |
brokentia (7843) | 2 years ago | Is an electric kettle a plug in that keeps water hot constantly? This way you don't have to wait 5 minutes for the kettle to whistle? Maybe I should invest in one of those. Then I would have water ready all the time for coffee!:)

7. pyewacket (8866) | 2 years ago | You and I must be throw backs of an earlier day gone by..I no longer have a tea kettle, but I do boil my water in a saucepan the old fashioned way..on the stove! and yes cook up soup and other hot beverages that way. Goodness can you imagine that! hehehe I could never understand the principle of boiling or as you say nuking water in a microwave...does it really save that much time...I'm never in such a hurry--are you?
| |
| |
zukepr (11373) | 2 years ago | you should really get you a kettle. Its much easier to pour than a saucepan. I am usually not in THAT big of a hurry where I cant wait just a few more minutes.

8. crazynurse (5686) | 2 years ago | Well I 'll have to confess that I am a lazy microwave convert. I remember in my teens and early 20's using a tea kettle, but I have converted to the microwave. I don't even remember when or how this conversion took place nor what happened to my tea kettle! I will also have to say though that tea does not taste as good when the water is done in the microwave. There is something about tea kettle boiled water that makes tea taste better! Perhaps I'll put a tea kettle on this years Christmas wish list!
