NEW YORK -- Amid complaints from family members from some of the victims of the Virginia Tech shootings, NBC and other networks said they would limit the use of the video diatribe sent by the mass murderer

NBC, CBS, ABC and Fox News said Thursday that they would severely limit the use of a video made by Cho Seung-Hui in the days before carrying out the worst mass shooting in U.S. history. Cho sent the video to NBC, which on Wednesday gave the original to law enforcement authorities and aired only a portion of the rambling, profane rant on "NBC Nightly News" and MSNBC that night. NBC News made the decision to air the video only after intense discussion with law enforcement and internal debates within the network.

But NBC News said Thursday that it would limit the use of the video -- material already seen widely on NBC and other networks or other video that hasn't been aired -- to less than 10% of airtime on NBC shows and MSNBC, its cable network. In reality, executives said, it would be a lot less than that.

The other news channels did the same, with ABC News president David Westin deciding before the second hour of "Good Morning America" to air only a brief clip of the video without audio. CBS News made the decision after the early editorial meeting to use it only judiciously and only with the approval of the executive producer.

Fox News said Thursday at 11:19 a.m. ET that it wouldn't air the tape anymore.

"These images of Cho are very disturbing -- so disturbing that, in deference to the families, Fox has decided that we will not air any more of that tape at this point," the network said on air.

It is a shame that family members of murdered students at Virginia Tech were subject to seeing this footage and to provide a warning before airing the footage would of been more suitable.

The footage has already been broadcast here in the UK on Sky news but without audio whilst a press conference was going on in the USA. However, its only a matter of time that the full video is all over the internet just like the Columbine video was showing the suicides of the two teens involved.

Its just a shame that people feel it neccessary to promote and share these kind of videos that can bring no good to anyone at all.
