Should Queen get a new lead singer?

Well I've never seen Paul Rodgers with Queen but I did see Freddie. That's not going to be an easy guy to replace. His voice was beyond incredible and he had a dramatic stage flair. The latter is not that hard but the former is damn difficult.

Call me crazy but the guy who I always thought should do it was George Michael. I remember being very impressed with his version of "Somebody To Love" (a damn tough song) at the tribute concert. He's the only singer of that evening that really equaled mercury's performance.

No one can replace Freddie Mercury. I think the only way Queen can walk out of his shadows is to reinvent themselves. Let's face it, no Freddie Mercury, no old Queen.

Wait a bit, did you say someone youtube some of the new concerts? Where? Mind posting the links? It would be good to see how they are fairing now.

I got the new live albumn with Paul Rodgers, and I missed Freddy and John. Hate to say it, but Brian and Roger cannot make Queen by themselves. Get John back in, and see if George Michaels would do it. Can't see him saying no.

I think Paul Rodgers is a great choice; he's already touring with the surviving members, has a great voice, & his already established classic rock history with Bad Company gives him hits of his own the band performs. It's totally appropriate they call it Queen + Paul Rodgers, as it obviously can never be "Queen" again without Freddie. He cannot be replaced, so I think their current move is the respectful & most viable one. Whether or not they make new music is another matter..Roger Taylor is great & already does leads on a number of songs, but I don't see him as a front man. Brian's got a great voice too, if you check out his solo work, like the song "Too Much Love Will Kill You."

Hmmm...is Queen still creating new material? I wasn't even aware of it. Queen without Mercury is like the Doors without Morrison. Yes, both bands can go on, but in what form?

I just don't think anyone can replace Freddie Mercury, but who knows some young undiscovered talents out there might be able to do that.

I love the music of the old Queen, and you are right, ORyans, it's just not the same. I was thinking about this very thing a few days ago while I was listening to the Temptations. Their group was never the same without their two lead singers. It had me wondering if they should have just stopped recording at a certain point. The lead singer usually takes the popularity of the group along with them when they leave.
