Hapless Baseball Team Wins Seven in a Row! |
| |
| As a few of you know, I am a fan of the San Francisco Giants. Baseball is the only sport I follow. Of course I became a fan in a winning season when they won the league's pennant. When your sports team then goes on an awful losing streak, it starts to mess with your mind. I never knew before how manic-depressive being a sports fan could be! Highs and lows, it's like being in love! Then they trade players every year and you suddently lose somebody like first baseman J.T. Snow. They get old, or they get concussions like Mike Matheny, or they get in a steroids scandal. It's always something for a sports fan! So imagine my joy that my beloved team finally won seven in a row and have beaten the Dirty LA Dodgers (who swept my Giants in their own park, sigh) twice. How would you adjust my mental sports attitude so that I can accept whatever happens in tonight's game? Have you ever let something really basically dumb like this affect your mood? | | | | | |

| | I used to let sports and game results upset me. But not in the last 15 years. It is not worth getting upset about it, not that I don't get emotional over the few teams I follow. I just don't get attched to the results. By the way, I know nothing of the San Francisco Giants...does Willie Mays still play for you guys? How about Orlando Cepeda? | | | | | | |

| | I believe Willie Mays retired from baseball in the early 1970's. If I am not mistaken he left San Francisco and went to the New York Mets before retiring. However, please don't quote me. I do not that he has been out of baseball for a long, long time. After retiring he did some coaching but wasn't that successful. + | | | |

| | I hoped sigma just meant to illustrate he didn't keep track lol. Those guys from the old days come back to chat with the announcers a lot. Or you see them in the stands and awards ceremonies. I always love to see them. I did watch some of the games with my dad in those days. | | | |

| | Yes, that is what I meant. I am no longer a baseball fan and haven't a clue as to who plays on which team. I just wish I still had all the baseball cards I collected in the late 50's and 60's. | | | |

| | I know, and even I was excited for the Red Sox fans when that happened! It's always nice to see such a turnaround. I remember when the Mets were known as a pack of "lovable losers" and all of a sudden they started becoming winners. I become a fan of players on other teams and am glad if they come over to the Giants. One of my beloved announcers said: "Baseball fans are always hopeful." And how true that is! Especially because there is a long season and so many games to look forward to. | | | |

| | Actually, I have to admit that I did watch a few of those games from that series. It was simply a monumental moment in the history of baseball and our country. It was good entertainment watching the Bosox overcome the powerful Yankees. | | | |

| | Thanks for the BR creme. Your announcer was right. And that series made baseball history as I am sure you know so I won't go into it. I also remember when the Mets were considered a joke. And you are right they sure showed the world that there was a place in the big leagues for them. Aristotle said, "Hope is a waking dream." Sigma....I am sure that there were a lot of people watching that series....even those whose interest lies in another sport. I wouldn't be surprised if that series also broke the TV listener record. It was much more exciting that Pudge Fisk's home run which was fantastic to say the least. + | | | |

| | And looks like the Philadelphia Phillies are coming on strong as many predicted, especially their own Jimmy Rollins! I have been a Braves fan for as long as I can remember, during the losing 80's, winning 90's, and into the 2000's. So no matter whether they lose 100 games in a season, win 100, make the playoffs or not, win the World Series or just get there, I support them all the way every day, every week, every month, and every year. So to answer your question, maybe those of us who are should not be fair weather fans, but rather support through thick and thin. This can apply to many other areas besides sports as well. | | | | | | |

| | That's true, and there are always the rally caps, which can sometimes assist the team in times of crisis, lol! And boy, I love our beautiful ballpark. When the games are played there they show the view out on McCovey Cove. Many people are out there in boats waiting in the bay for the "splash hit" home runs. I just love it! | | | |

| | Hello, cremcheese,it is a good news for you for the giants to win seven straight games. I think you know how to deal with your attitude as you have been watching baseball for so long, you should know winning or losing in a single game does not mean anything as there are 140 games more to go. Of course, you should be happy of the winning streak, but do no be too sad if losing,no teams can win forever. Anyway, the giants are just one game behind the dogders ,it is not hat hard to get back to top ranking again if Bonds is batting well, isn't it? | | | | | | |

| | He is, he is! Of course they will probably all start walking him intentionally again. But I love it when they do that, and Durham comes along behind and gets a homer instead, lol. Serves them right, huh? Last of the Dodger series tonight. Hope we sweep them in payback! | | | |

| | What kind of fan calls his team "hapless" after that type of winning streak? I dont even know where to begin, take a better look at the roster, with Zito, Cain, and Bonds I would not be surprised to see the Giants in the pennant race, it seems to happen almost every year.. | | | | | | |
