What do you think of Dan Brown's controversial Da Vinci Code? | | I have to hand it to the author- this book was simply hard to put down! Yet after finally closing it, I became faced with so many issues about my Christian beliefs. I know this book was purely fictional but you cant help but ask: what if were true? what if Jesus Christ really left a son? What if Mary Magdalene was really his wife? Does it change the image of Christ as someone pure and without sin/without lust? This book left a strange impact in my life. It got me thinking of many notions that once never entered my mind...

Nothing Dan Brown wrote in The Da Vinci Code was new information, it was brought to light in a different way. A lot of people who are uneducated on religion were offended by the book, because religion is a matter of blind faith. So basically they believe what they believe, but do not have any idea of what the true facts are about their religion.

| dare2bare (8) | 3 years ago | I have to disagree with you on the your first point: that it was a poorly written mystery. First because readers would not have enjoyed it if it was. Second because the measure of a well written book is how far it goes and so far its popularity has not ebbed in the past year. But then i would have to agree with you on the rest: that nothing he wrote was new information and that it was merely introduced in a different light. Perhaps I am in dire need of spiritual reinforcement...:)

SamtoEarth (70) | 3 years ago | To be honest, I have not read this book though I have been reading other things(some posts here on MyLot) recently that have challenged my faith; and I have appreciated it precisely because it made me think hard about my faith and learn new things. The thing is, God is up to any challenge and our faith is not in ourselves, but in Him. If you have questions, ask them, but truly seek the answers. Don't just listen to everybody and everything because in this day and age you will find so many views that you will hear just about anything and the truth will be lost in the tumult. I would strongly encourage you to find a person who is strong in the Christian faith who you can ask these questions and would have the wisdom and the knowledge to give you/help you find the answers. Though I do not agree that religion is blind faith, the first responder makes a good point: many people do not know the foundations of their faith they just believe because. The beautiful thing of it is, going deeper into study of your Bible, prayer with God, and conversations with His people you will find that spiritual reinforcement you are seeking: your faith will be strengthened. I am open to more conversation if you wish, however I think face to face is often better so I would still encourage you to find someone you can meet with where you are. A couple of verses for encouragement: In Jeremiah 29:13,14a God tells His people, "'You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,' declares the Lord... And Jesus says, in Matthew 7:7,8, "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened."Sorry if I overdid it. I just identified with you on the asking questions/seeking deeper reinforcement and was excited to share what I'd found. Thanks for posting, don't give up on God;) ~a sister in Christ
