Do you make your child wear a helmet and pads when they ride their bikes? |
| |
| Kids are supppose to wear a bike helmet whenever they ride thier bike to protect their skull if they fall knee and elbow pads are also reccemmended I see alot of children riding their bikes to school that don't wear either one. I will admit my 10 year old son does not wear them and he has wrecked his bike and hit his head on the street we were lucky he just ended up with really bad bruises and scrapes. My 4 year old daughter just got a bike for her birthday and I am not letting her back on it until she has at least a helmet! Do you make your kids wear helmets? | | | | | |

| | I do make my children wear helmets just because you never know when they might have some kind of accident where they would hit their head. I don't however make them wear elbow and knee pads. I think that wearing those can actually hinder their movements. | | | | | | |

| | I agree with you on the pads they tend to be kinda bulky and I think they can make the child wreck. | | | |

| | I always ask them to but they refuse, saying that the helmet makes their head hurt, hair curly and smelly and a lot more reasons. They would wear them for a while but when I turn my back they would immediately remove them. | | | | | | |

| | Hi kathy, In my country it is compulsory for all children to wear helmets while riding bikes. And Yes I do make mine wear them, for there own saftey and that fact that if there caught without them, they get there bikes taken, and parents or guardians have to pay an instant fine. | | | | | | |

| | Wow it's not against the law here to ride without one but they do really want you to wear one! Taken their bike away if they don't wear a helment that would be like taking a car away from an adult becasue they weren't wearing their seat belt! | | | |

| | My 6 yr old daughter only rides her bike on our driveway and she knows that she must wear a helmet. My boys are 13 & 15. They take their bikes on the street going to friends houses. I went threw a huge fight with them regarding helmets and safety. Unfortunately as they got older, they tend to not wear them. It is one of those rules that if I choose to enforce, they just won't ride their bikes and then they will need rides as we live at least 1.5 miles from the school ect. It is easier to not argue about it and let them go~ reminding them to be safe. | | | | | | |

| | My son will be 11 in July and if I tried to make him wear a helmet it would be world war 3! My 4 year old daughter will proably think it is cool to wear one. I am going to get her a disney princess one to match her disney princess bike I hope that will help get her to wear it. | | | |

| | I think if you get a princess one, your daughter will love it. It becomes an issue when the kids are older and they realize that they are wearing a helmet and the older siblings aren't. I'm like you, I don't feel like going to war over it. | | | |

| | My son rides on my bike with me (in an toddler seat) and he has to wear a helmet when he rides, if he wants to go for a ride, he must wear a helmet. I just think, what if something bad happens, and he gets hurt really bad, if he could have been saved by a helmet, I would never be able to forgive myself for not making him wear one. Also, I wear a helmet when I ride with him, firstly, to be a good example, and secondly, if something were to happen, I need my head to be protected as well, so I don't get hurt and can take care of him. | | | | | | |

| | Children should never ride a bike without any safety they should keep helmet to their head, pads to their knees as they protect them for injuries to skull and knee joint if at all they meet an accident as they are children we should not think them as good bike riders unless and untill they are very used to driving. | | | | | | |

| | my son is 8, he rides his bike with no helmet on, i bought him knee pads, elbow pads and the helmet when he got his first bike, he liked the idea of them at fist, but then decided he didn't like them (the pads are actually quite uncomfortable, and the helmets are always ill fitting). i do not use them when i ride, and my son sees this, so he thinks i am being hypocritical when i ask him to wear his, and do you know what... he's correct. i will never force him to wear them, but it would be nice if he did only occasionally. | | | | | | |

| | Too right I do! They wouldn't be seen dead in knee and elbow pads, but at least I feel I've partly won the war by getting them to automatically put on their helmets when they get on their bikes. Grazed knees and elbows are a lot more easily fixed than cracked heads. | | | | | | |

| | i think prevention is better than cure . So i think its good for wearing helmat when they are in the bike. But iam on the opinion that what ever happened should be happend we cant stop but for our peace we should have to take necessary step for precausion | | | | | | |

| | I do agree that kids who are learning to ride should be wearing helmet, elbow and knee pads when they are on their bikes. Prevention is better than cure as they are really prone to falls and do not know how to balance themselves, However, I am not in favour of kids riding on the streets even if they are fully armoured. | | | | | | |
