Do you dress your babies in your old baby clothes? |
|
My mom gave me some old clothes that I wore as a baby for my daughter when she was born. Although it was a very nice gesture, the clothes are just so horribly out of date and most are really worn out so I never put them on my daughter. My mom never asked about it so its all cool. I plan on giving them to my girl when she is older to put on her dolls. I will also keep some of my daughters favorite clothes as well but I'm not sure if I will ever give them to her for her own kids.

1. mememama (2154) | 3 years ago | My mother didn't keep any, but my mother in law had a mustard yellow polyester outfit that was my husbands as a baby. Thankfully my son would have never fit in it, the outfit was for preemies (my husband was only 5 pounds at birth). I've kept my sons clothes but only because we plan on having more children, after that I'll donate them.

2. Carrie26 (1086) | 3 years ago | My mom had kept some baby clothes when I was little but htey got mildewed because she stored them in a box instead of a storage container. So she had to throw them away.I wouldnt have probably put any of the clothes if they had survived on my kids either.Maybe the dolls like you said.I dont mind used clothes but the baby clothes I had wore along time back would have been old.

3. Sissygrl (5760) | 3 years ago | I have recieved some of those kinds of clothes from my mother in law too. she will buy them at second hand stores and send them to me, and i will in return take them to the second hand store in my town lol. I love second hand clothes, they are awesome, cause i can't afford to buy new clothes that will only fit for a few weeks! I save all the stuff that i have bought new, or anything that is really cute. JUST in case i have another girl someday;) or maybe to show her later on and give them to her for her dolls too i suppose. my mom gave me my baby clothes for cabbage patch dolls when i was younger. But i have given them all a long long time ago.

4. loved1 (4852) | 3 years ago | I was 26 by the time I had my first baby so my old baby clothes were WAY too old and out of date by then. Of course my mother saved them for me and wanted me to use them but they reeked of mothballs and were hideous! haha I did save clothes from my older daughters to use for the younger ones though. I worked out really well having three girls because everything just gets passed down!

5. carlaabt (3164) | 3 years ago | My mom got rid of all my baby clothes long ago. We played with some of them on our dolls when we were little. The only things that my mom kept were two dresses that my grandpa bought for my older sister. He never bought my brother anything while my mom was pregnant with him, so I think she kept that first dress because it was the only thing she thought she would ever get from him (her parents divorced when she was young and she rarely saw her dad). He bought my sister another dress for her third birthday, but he died the day before her birthday. My mom kept it in case my sister wanted it someday. It seems kinda silly to me, though. Why didn't she keep any of our clothes from our grandma, who actually loved us and spent so much time with us? I don't really get it, but that's okay. Those were the only things she kept, and they are both for my older sister.
I have kept everything of my son's so far. We want at least one more kid, so even the clothes that Elliott stained, we will probably use at home, instead of staining a whole new set! He's not as rough on clothes as a lot of kids, though. Even as a newborn, he never spit up. Our next one might go through a lot more clothes, though!

6. cherbe (2303) | 3 years ago | My mom gave me my baby clothes when daughter was born as well. I put her one outfit because it looked really cute on her and was the type of thing that any baby could wear with out really being out of date... it was in very good condition as well... the other clothes we use as doll clothes and her baby clothes are used for that now as well...she will probably get these clothes as well when she gets older just because it is kind of nice for a tradition... doesn't mean the babies have to wear them but keeping one or two pieces can be kind of neat to see years later to see the difference in clothing styles and quality.

9. kathy77 (6867) | 3 years ago | Yes that is a very nice gesture from your mother, but no I did not dress any of my babies in my old clothes. Yes it is great that your daughter can get some use out of them with her dolls when she is a bit older. Maybe your daughter would like to see some of her clothes when she gets a bit older and maybe she could give them to her children to pass down to their dolls.

10. trinidadvelasco (9110) | 3 years ago | if i have some old clothes which i can let my baby wear, i will definitely let my baby wear them. if the clothes are out of fashion, at least, they can be worn as houseclothes. i wiii be mending those which will be needing mending and washing and ironing those which needs to be cleaned. this is my own view only, but i will honor the efforts my mom exerted at keeping my old clothes for the opportune time.
