What to do when you can't help your kids in school...no matter how old they are! |
| |
| At the ripe old age of 40...lol..my daughter is graduating from Boston College in a few weeks and had to do a last paper for one of her Government classes. She asked me for some input and now I'm looking for some "unbiased" input from mylotters. She's trying to equate our Government, or anyone's government I guess, with maturity. I'm having a hard time trying to figure out where she's going with this but she's been an A student all these years and I'm not going to question her now. She wants to know if this definition of maturity would be suitable for her to use in her analogy. Of course I want to tell her that it's perfect but then she's my daughter right? What Is Maturity What is maturity? Maturity is the ability to control anger and settle differences without violence or destruction. Maturity is patience. It is the willingness to pass up immediate pleasure in favor of the long-term gain. Maturity is perseverance, the ability to sweat out a project or a situation in spite of heavy opposition and discouraging set-backs. Maturity is the capacity to face unpleasantness and frustration, discomfort and defeat, without complaint or collapse. Maturity is humility. It is being big enough to say, "I was wrong." And, when right, the mature person need not experience the satisfaction of saying, "I told you so." Maturity is the ability to make a decision and stand by it. The immature spend their lives exploring endless possibilities; then they do nothing. Maturity means dependability, keeping one's word, coming through in a crisis. The immature are masters of the alibi. They are the confused and the disorganized. Their lives are a maze of broken promises, former friends, unfinished business, and good intentions that somehow never materialize. Maturity is the art of living in peace with that which we cannot change, the courage to change that which should be changed -- and the wisdom to know the difference. I may be wrong but the last paragraph looks like something from AA doesn't it? | | College Diploma | | | | |

| | In all it's pretty good and well written.....meaning it's easy to understand the point she's trying to make. I just don't like the usage of words for the last part. Maturity is the art of living in peace with that which we can not change, the courage to change that which should and wants to be changed, but most of all to know the difference. It's just my opinion....but that sounds a bit better to me. | | | | | | |

| | Thanks for the insight. Actually that is not the whole paper she just wants me to look at the part on maturity to see what I think about it. She is incorporating it into the main paper she is working on. | | | |

| | I kind of figured that this was not the complete paper.I do remember writing some for school myself and they had to be at least a certain amount of words or pages. If she wrote the rest as well as this short passage....I think she will do just fine. You have good reason to be proud of her. | | | |

| | I like it. I think she is very eloquent in her writing. Makes a lot of sense. THe words make you think and that is what it is meant to do. I think she will get a great grade. | | | | | | |

| | The last paragraph is the Serenity prayer- I think- It looks so familiar- I thought the rest was wonderful! Very well thought out and really has a lot of meaning- Looks like your daughter really put some time into this one! So now that she described maturity what level does she put our government? A lot of these things I think we do a great job at- others we are still learning- Tell her wonderful job- I would get rid of the last paragraph though | | | | | | |
