Should all restaurants and pubs should shut shop by 11.30 pm? | | The deadline wouldn't have posed a problem, if professionals strictly worked 9-5. But that's literally a joke in the IT industry where people clock fourteen-hour days, on an average. And then, there's the BPO industry that works only at night. This largely young work force has no place to go except to their office canteen during their late-night dinner break, unlike their day-shift counterparts. And for foreigners impressed with the city's IT prowess, the virtual lack of a night life would be bewildering and, more importantly, boring.

For some people spending most part of their days in the evening/early night or early night/morning is just a lot more comfortable, but in todays society in most places in the world it doesn't match up with the options.

Most make last call at 1:30 or 1:45 to make sure they get done by 2. They are not allowed to open until 6 am I believe. Locally there are people who work at industries that run 3 shifts and being both a restaurant worker and bartender I have seen often enough people getting off work and wanting a drink at all hours day and night. If you have a foundry worker getting done at midnight they want a beer or three and a couple shots. They want to wind down after a hard days work. Most of these time restricted are from days before electricity and being able to work like this 24 hours a day. Now with the global community, it is more important to be able to do things in the 'middle of the night' so also it is important to have places available for those who are on that schedule. 24 hour restaurants are not uncommon, but the bars are still living in the 19th century.

But the police complain that they don't have the manpower for late-night patrols, which extending the deadline would entail. While these are valid concerns, the government must take steps to address these road blocks. After all, if India's Silicon Plateau can take on the world during the day, why not at night?

| | 4. 20052005 (123) | 3 years ago | Isnt this an issue in India or rather let me say was an issue in India? Bangalore a city in India is said to have the highest no of pubs in the world, which led to increase in crime in that city. hence the government put forth the rule which states there shouldn't be any night club which opens at night. i feel i should approve to the above discussion
