Who had the greatest performance in the movie LOTR?

Now this is a tough choice. The actors in the movies were all so very good. John Rys Davies having to play the dwarf when he's such a big man was very interesting. Let alone the emotional performances Elijah Wood and Sean Astin had to put forth. Ian McKellen is one of my favorites but I'm not sure if his performance was any better then the rest. They all did such an excellent job that it is very hard to pick just one. Orlando Bloom playing the very cool elf that he did or Viggo Mortisen playing Aragorn. They all put out the best they could. If I had to pick just one I think I'd go with Sean Astin. He portrayed the best friend and really knew how to show his emotions through it all. The scene where he picks up Frodo and carries him is so emotionally charged that it's not easy to forget.

My vote goes to Viggo Mortensen who played Aragon. He really portrayed the reluctant hero very well. You can actually empathise with his emotions as he struggles with his lineage and his duty to the kingdom of men.

I am impressed with Orlando Bloom...nice fighting skills and a very great archer...he put down the idiots elephants(scene at the return of the king)...hahahaah...very very spectacular...

I just watched the Fellowship again last week. I think that they all did an outstanding job. Every single one of them really looked and fit the part. But if I really had to pick, I think the greatest performance though would be that of Aragorn.

I love McKellan's Gandalf as well. He was able to be solemn and serious and yet contributed to quite a few of the light-hearted and comic moments of the film.

Um..the one who act as Smegal..I can not remmember the name. This one has many characters and it is perfect.

I agree that Ian Mckellen was great as Gandalf, but I also think that Viggo Mortenson's potral of Aragon was good too!!

Ian, both as Gandalf the Grey and Gandalf the White's done a superb job in bringing to life a character who has been loved for many generations. I think he's immortalized this role. I hope he reprises this role when they eventually create The Hobbit.

He's Gandalf... and now Magneto.

I also vote for Ian McKellen, who portrayed Gandalf. He actually BECAME Gandalf on that movie, he's a great actor, and it's like he was meant to take on that role in that movie. His portraying of Gandalf will always be remembered by many.
