| It depends on the type of pizza you're looking for. If you're looking for New York style, thin crust pizza, then College Park Inn can't be beat. It's across the street from Miami Dade College Kendall campus, right next to an apartment complex and the post office. There's also a small convenience store in the strip mall and a sub place (Hungry Bear Subs, which is, incidentally, the best sub shop in the area as well). On the other hand, if it's the middle of the night and you need to sober up, Gino's on South Beach, is an institution. Likewise, if you aren't already on the beach, but get a midnight craving for pizza, Rey's in Hialeah is good. I don't know if any Big Tomato's are still open, but there used to be one in the Pinecrest area and in the Kendall Mall. I know the Kendall Mall one is gone for sure, but I don't know if there are any others. There are a few Bellantes in the area too (a pizza buffet) which is good. It's not the greatest pizza in the city or anything like that, but it's all-you-can-eat and affordable. If you ask the kitchen staff, they'll even make custom pies, and they have a salad and pasta bar too. There used to be a restaurant called Anthoney's on Kendall Drive just west of 97th avenue (just across the railroad crossing on the North side of the street... there's a Navarro across the street from the small strip mall), but they've been gone for a long time, since Anthoney up and moved to Key Largo. I practically grew up in that hole-in-the-wall, because it was right down the street and my family loved it. (For good reason. Everything on the menu was amazing, and it was family owned and operated, so the service was spectacular.) You've officially made me homesick, though. Nothing beats College Park Inn memories of a mushroom pizza with a cold pitcher of beer, unless they're memories of huge family gatherings that featured a very similar menu at Anthoney's. Good times... |
