Is the currrent Education System useless?

The sad truth is, nowadays, you really need to have an education and have that piece of paper that says you went to college to find a job.

Take a job where two people have applied for the same position. One has experience, one has a college degree but no experience. The employer will hire the college educated person because they can pay them less money and train them the way they want them trained. They do not want the experienced person because they would have to pay a higher salary to them and retrain them to the ways of the company.

That is the truth of the matter as I see day it and day out.

While the education system is not useless, I do agree that now days the employer is looking for the person he can hire for less money. I think the education system should be changed some as for example a person goes to college and for four years they spend a lot of time takeing classes that have nothing to do with there major .For example my stepdaughter is getting ready to graduate with a physcology degree and she had to take classes in photography and a class in art and a few other classes that had nothing to do with what she is going to school for. I feel this is a waste of time and money,she could have had all classes that had to do with childrens welfare,and how to help the children she will be working with .
I guess I just dont understand why these odd requirements are thrown in there wasteing parents and sometimes goverment money.

I don't think it's useless because many jobs won't hire you unless you have a high school diploma. However, if you want a specialized job they will require you for more education. Many times schools will offer to pay for your university classes (while you are going to their high school). I have seen people do that. What they do is take summer school classes then during their junior and senior years will take university classes! Depending on the schools, they will pay 50% or more of the fees. If more people knew that I am sure they would want to take summer school classes. First, you get ahead of the pack with university classes, second you generally don't have to pay the whole fees!
