Update on our new dog/ why dump a dog?  |

 About a month ago, I wrote a discussion about a little brown dog who was dropped off at our driveway, and the poor little thing would not give up on her family coming back. A lot of you have been asking how she is, so I wanted to let you know, she's fine!
We still have her, we inquired every where, I made signs with her picture, our phone numbers, etc and posted them, trying to find her owners in the event she was just lost. No one has come forward as of yet. I still suspicion they wont.
It took almost two weeks for her to completely give up. We speculate her former owners had a red car, because when any red car would go past, she would run fast as a bullet towards it.
This whole process has been very sad. She did however stop sitting and waiting by the road, and claimed "her spot" on our deck. She loves the deck, and us. We have taken care of her needs as far as medical, bathed, deflea'd, brushed. I still need to get her spayed. I want to wait until she has got her strength and healthy, but I will see that need is met as well, pretty soon.
I named her Katie. She and I sat down and had a "talk" about names. She did not like any suggestions until I said "Katy", she likes that and responds, and comes running!
She and our other outside dog Luke have made good friends.
The only problem that we've ran into is our inside dog, Rosie, doesn't want to warm up to Katie. She thinks she's alright, but wants to dominate her. Rosie is 9 years old and has been the "Queen" for quite a while! We don't trust them to play just yet!
By now, I hope all of you are smiling, I sure am. I really appreciate all of your kind and caring responses. I am so glad to see so many kind & compassionate animal lovers. Thanks! And Katie thanks you!:)

1.  wolfie34 (13928) | 3 years ago |  Thank you for sharing such a heart-warming story and so glad she has a happy ending, but this is not so for so many dumped animals out there, it is true an animal is for life not just for Christmas. My housemate and I volunteer to help out at our local cattery and we have heard so many stories about owners dumping cats and being cruel to them, one cat came in with all her whiskers cut off, it is so saddening to see, the rescue centre gives them a second chance at life and new owners but some are too old to be rehomed they are never put down tho' I can't believe how people can be so cruel to defenceless beautiful creatures who can provide so much love. It truly is a cruel world my friend but you spread light with your wonderful saving Katy x

I'm trying to help one at a time, you are volunteering some very precious time for as many animals at a time as you can, I commend you, And your housemate. And thank you in behalf of those precious babies. This is all we can do, the best we can.
We thought (for about a second) to take her to the shelter, Lord knows we really don't need another, but honestly, I know she will be happier here. She has freedom, doesn't have to be penned up. | |

2.  kebpete (6858) | 3 years ago |  thanks for the update and you are so kind to take care of her,it is such a shame people do that to animals,this is why we have a yard full of stray cats but cant stand to see any thing thrown away we are allergic so of corse they have to stay out side but they are as happy as they can be.

Of course, I had tears in my eyes as I read about Katie running after those cars... who in their right mind abandons an animal?!?!? I just don't understand 'em. You are a kind and generous soul to welcome her into your home and family. She sounds like she is being treated so well and she looks wonderful in the photo! She's a beautiful dog! Congratulations to you, on your new addition, and to Katie for having found a new home that was truly "heaven sent";) All the best!

Where I live you don't see too many abandon animals, thank goodness. I would have done the same things that you have. When I was a child we often would pick up strays that people just dumped off. I wish that instead of dumping the animal that they would atleast take it to an animal shelter so that the poor thing has a chance.

I brush her, but she's kind of ragged looking with her fur:)
Hey Luke has this new thing, he gets the turtles (no more chewing!:) brings them to my husband or me, we say "oh what a nice turtle, lets turn him loose", and he's happy then! Sounds like we're crazy, but this is true!
