Coffee drinkers at home ...do you have a your preferences?  email this discussion to a friend?

I'm a coffee addict and drink more than I like to even admit to. Although I would prefer to have Dunkin Donuts available at all times of the day, in reality I have to make my own here in my apartment.
I have a drip coffee maker and I go through a couple of them a year since I'm so hard on them, but I love the aroma and even the noise that comes from the old fashioned percolator coffee pots. Plus with a percolator there's no need for filters.
I also prefer to grind my own coffee beans and when their on sale I will buy a couple of bags at Dunkin Donuts. Opening the fresh bag of coffee beans for the first time is such a pleasure for me because it always smells so good. There's something missing when I open a container of ground coffee, even though it still has that fresh aroma the beans always have a little something more as far as I'm concerned.
Do you drink coffee at home? Do you prefer a drip coffee maker or percolator? How about coffee beans or ground coffee from a can?
Do you think I'm too fussy as far as my coffee? I don't! I know what I like!

I have a large cafetierre which is always in action here. I love my fresh ground coffee and the first thing in the morning I fill the kettle and get the coffee out. I have my coffee for breakfast with a couple of warm croissants, and the cafetierre is always ready to top up my caffiene levels.

myLot reputation of 91/100. mistymornster (1786)  5 years ago

I've heard of and seen things called cafetierre and other names like that and some day I'm going to get one. I've never been into capacino (sp) and other types of coffees but that's not saying that I wouldn't like them. It sounds like your another coffee buff too though.

I also love coffee very much i don't take it so much frequently. I take it in the weekends when i go to relax in the garden. When i sit in my garden i really think about the flora and fauna of the garden and take a great sip of my coffee. Mostly i prefer coffee from can because i am a bit lazy in making my own coffee. So i really know what i like and i think you really know what you like.

myLot reputation of 91/100. mistymornster (1786)  5 years ago

Sitting in the garden with your coffee sounds so awesome to me. I'm just happy sitting in my kitchen and enjoying that very first sip in the morning.

I was pretty much addicted to coffee for a long time but here recently, I really don't drink alot of it. We have a bun coffee maker. We had alot of regular coffee makers in the past but the hard water in our area runied them and would not the water run through it. We tried to clean them out with CLR but even that didn't work. The bun coffee maker doesn't plug up and we haven't had to replace it yet either. I like the smell of coffee also. I still drink coffee every day but not as much as before. I prefer using the bun because of the hard water issue. I use ground coffee but have used beans in the past a few times. I don't think your too fussy over your coffee. I think you have good standards, is all it is.

myLot reputation of 91/100. mistymornster (1786)  5 years ago

I've heard a lot of good things about Bunn coffee makers and I think I should check them out because of the hard water issue here. It seems like I'm always cleaning out my coffee maker and I make a big job of that using white vinegar and trying to be as thorough as I can so it doesn't clog up.

myLot reputation of 91/100. mistymornster (1786)  5 years ago

wow....congratulations on the quitting smoking! That's a day I'll never ever see. I also see your point...coffee goes with cigarettes so there goes that...lol....also not good when you have high blood pressure.

Oh you are addicted lol.Our coffee pot goes from the time I fall out of bed untill I fall back in which thanks to Mylot is sometime ery late in the night. I love the smell of fresh coffee but we dont often grind our own, we have a Bun coffemaker the faster I can get my coffee in the morning the better.I dont think your to fussy everyone has there own preference on how they like there coffee, I also like some vanilla late in my coffee later in the day.

myLot reputation of 91/100. mistymornster (1786)  5 years ago

Well, I think we're doing a commercial for Bunn Coffee makers now! lol...I'll have to check into them. I'm not much into flavored coffees but when I do it's usually either vanilla or hazelnut.

Oh Dunkin Donuts is SO good!

But, since I'm broke, I have to go with the el-cheapo, generic brand from the local grocery store. I love the smell (French Vanilla or Columbian) but the taste just doesn't compare. Someday when I'm rich, it'll be Dunkin's all the way...

myLot reputation of 91/100. mistymornster (1786)  5 years ago

lol...no, someday when I'm rich I'm going to OWN a DD coffee shop! I would take baths in the stuff! Sometimes I put my change in a jar specifically for the times when I'm craving a dunks coffee!

I will admit to how much coffee I drink. Myself alone I drink maybe 3 pots minimum daily. It's been this way ever since I sobered up 16 years ago. Prior to that I drank maybe a pot a week. I use a drip maker and I also go through at least one a year due to over extended use of it. I buy canned coffee at Sams as it's cheaper tyhan beans seeing I drink so much also. I want a perculator but the wife prefers not to have one. I keep telling her I want the 50 cup model perculator so I don't have to make so many pots during the day. Hahahaha! I don't use milk and sugar eiother. I use only Coffee Mate French Vaniila flaoverd dairy additive. I love the taste of it in my coffee.

Yes, a man after my own heart! When my Dad "sobered up" he just about lived on coffee and I noticed that a lot of people who quit drinking do the same thing. Maybe it's all those AA meetings? I once went on a Coffee Mate French Vanilla binge until I got sick of the taste! Now I take it straight!

I don't drink a lot of coffee anymore. But when I do, it has to be from coffee beans that I have ground myself, and they have to be certain flavors. I have a regular coffee maker that requires filters. And I swear the thing talks. If I got a new one, it wouldn't be the same. LOL I definitely think we both could be classified as "coffee snobs".

myLot reputation of 91/100. mistymornster (1786)  5 years ago

Gee, what would your coffee maker say? I look at mine and it seems to say oh no...here she comes again! lolol...

Nothing wrong with being fussy about what you like. I prefer Tim Horton's over Dunkin' Donuts coffee, but that is me. I mainly drink instant at home and usually only 1 or 2 cups a day and maybe a cup of tea. Maybe one day, I will get a good coffee maker and try some more exotic brands. The fresh aroma of coffee is almost addictive...lol.

myLot reputation of 91/100. mistymornster (1786)  5 years ago

I've never heard of Tim Horton's, it must be a regional thing. I guess every area of the state has it's own thing.

I go out and by one pound of coffee beans of a brand and type that I like. Then I grind some beans and put them in the filter of my drip coffee maker. I love the sound!
I am alway very happy when the coffee is ready. I have two cups each in the morning and afternoon. In the afternoon I usually have a piece of cake with it. It is a ceremony that I love.

myLot reputation of 91/100. mistymornster (1786)  5 years ago

This sounds like a yummy ceremony! Any specific cake? lol
