When is the right time to put the AC in???? |
|
I live in good old Boston, MA! Here it is May 8 and I'm still looking at my AC sitting on the floor in my living room. I've decided that next year it's staying in the window instead of going through all of that work of taking it in and out every year. I'm no always the sharpest knife in the set! Living in Boston is a real coin toss as far as the weather is concerned but I'm thinking this HAS to be the beginning of spring/summer. We seldom get spring weather and go right into summer but like I said we never know around here. Today it was almost 80 degrees outside but the humidity wasn't bad. The rest of the week is supposed to be in the low 70's and that's not too hard to handle. I think by the end of this week I should have someone get that old AC up and working before it gets too late. If your AC is not in the window all year when do you decide to put it in? Do you wait until it's almost to the boiling point and it's essential or as soon as the nice weather sets in?

1. brendalee (4965) | 1 year ago | We used to take the AC out every year and put it back in when the first spell of over 80 degree weather crept in. But we got lazy this year and we never took them out. I kind of like it that way because now I don't have to rag on my boyfriend about putting it in.lol. It was about 85 today here in New York but like yours, its not humid. Right now I have two fans going and I am fairly cool. I have a feeling this is going to be a hot summer and I am not thrilled about it.

mistymornster (1800) | 1 year ago | I'm going to get lazy this year and not take mine out either. The funny thing is that I'm sure by next year it won't be working because it's a couple of years old now and wasn't an expensive one. So the joke will be on me! lol

2. Katlady2 (3963) | 1 year ago | We have 3 window air conditioners in our house. Only one of them gets taken out of the window during the winter. The other two stay put. During the cold months hubby takes a couple of thick plastic bags and tapes them around the outside of the air conditioners so that it stays warmer in the house. He takes the one in my daughter's room out of the window because my daughter gets grumpy and complains that it makes her room too cold. We haven't put hers back in yet since it stays pretty cool in her room yet. But I unwrapped the one in the living room about a month ago. And I am actually using it right now as I am typing. It's in the low 90s right now, and this house doesn't have the best insulation in the world.....and I refuse to suffer in the heat! LOL

mistymornster (1800) | 1 year ago | I would be like your daughter complaining in the winter about the room being too cold so I might just think about keeping the dumb thing in the window. I don't handle heat very well and can see that in a day or two mine will be in and better be purring away! lol

It holds everything from nuts to bolts and our artificial Christmas tree. The weather here was 82 yesterday we had four fans going.

mistymornster (1800) | 1 year ago | Everyone has mentioned fans and I just realized that I threw mine out last year so I'd better get my butt in gear and pick up another one and fast. My AC never made it to the basement or a closet...it's been sitting in a corner in my living room waiting for my son to move it.

4. mrsbrian (1646) | 1 year ago | Having just moved from vermont, we did the window in window out thing for years and it was not a fun job, but it took away to much livingroom light to leave it in all winter so every years my husband took it out. I know most years we didnt even need to air untill sometime in june but this year is different. We always waited untill we thought we could not take the heat anny longer to put it in if the fans were just blowing ariund hot air -it was time. Now we have moved to ohio and we have whole house air which I am waiting to see how well it works.

7. katiedoubleu (2712) | 1 year ago | Ah... a timely question considering I was just thinking about this a while ago. Ooops, I see you wrote this a week ago:-) but no matter... it's 90 degrees here right now and if it would be 90 in July, I'd definitely have it on. There's something in me that refuses to turn it on in May, though... silly I suppose.:-) I think humidity has a lot to do with it, too... in July it's a lot more humid than it is today.

9. patootie (3163) | 1 year ago | I have a little wheeled air con jobbie .. I can fill it with water and it does a grand job of keeping me cool .. then in the winter when it's not needed I just wheel it into my wardrbe where it sits until the next summer ... I would like a proper fixed air con unit though .. and the price is coming down more and more now .. so maybe I just might treat myself .. if I write enough replies here in MyLot I could even get one for FREE ... heheheh

10. KrisNY (7280) | 1 year ago | We live in NY and also take ours out of the window each year- We get too much snow and cold weather to be able to leave it in. Ours still isn't in the window yet- Probably June- we will put it back in- Today it's in the 80's and tomorrow high 80's then back down to low 70's and high 60's. I can stand the heat for a bit- Plus it feels great to me at first- I'm so sick of the rainy, changing weather!
