Trumpets,do you blow your own?  

I don't generaly blow my own horn about much. About the only thing i Know I'm good at is guitar. I consider myself a pertty acomplished guitar player. Other than that, i'm pretty modest. I know I can't stand it when people feel they have to "one up" you durring conversation. the "been everywhere", "done it all" types.

This is exactly what I do when those who feel they have to let others know about their achievements. I let them blow their own horn and just sit and smile and nod and say "oh really?!" LOL Most of the time if its family i like to hear about what they have been up to and what they have achieved especially with my teenage neices and nephews and I like to keep encouraging them to keep at it and so forth. Sometimes people just do it to show off and I really don't know why they need to! It's nice to feel proud but blowing your own horn can become quite annoying for others :)

I just let every one do what they have to do. Every trumpet gets deflated with time if the person cannot see his own mistakes. I do understand what you mean and I knew a man that kept comparing me to his wife, saying his wife was prettier and better etc. Until not so long ago I heard that he had divorced her because she had cheated on him. I gave my condolences to the guy when I saw him again, because I didn't want to say to him what Karma is all about, he already became humbled through the experience. I lfe isn't just about a pretty face is it now?

Good discussion, my friend. What I will do will depend on how far they carry it and how irritated I feel. Usually, I will try to change the topic when it gets to my nerves? It is not that hard normally unless that guy is a persistent, incorrigible braggart. In that case, I would probably find some excuse to walk away. Whether or not the achievements are true, I don't really care. What has it got to do with me? Unless I was the one asking in the first place and I really want to know, I would just wave him goodbye.

I know a few people also who are so proud and arrogant of their achievements including here at mylot. I wouldn't mind seeing myself how they did their job, their performances and accomplishments. But I will pretend to be blind by all of it if they start blowing their horn. This kind of people are usually the attention seekers, covering their weaknesses and insecure. There's really no sense in trying to be a trumpet blower. I would prefer to keep everything as quietly as possible.

No, i don't blow my own trumpets. I'll make this world do it for me insted, if it does'nt happen, no problem , i still keep persevering. We should always let our works do the talking and not words. Works are sharper and more effective than words. For those who constantly boast themselves, i'm listening to anymore. I always get impressed and inspired by the works and not by the words anyone speaks out. So i always believing in conserving all our energy and utilizing it our works than in our useless talks

Wow, no I think my eyes glaze over a bit. There is a woman I know who has been everywhere, done everything, knows everything. It is really grating and I try not to spen too much time with her if I can avoid it.

Recently she was telling me about my home town and a big event we have had there since before I was born and I have attended many, many, many times. She was the expert, because she had flown in for it. She didn't even realise the event is no longer held and had moved to two other locations before it was shut down. She was arguing with me about some very basic details that she had wrong and I could scarcely believe it. My kids have been to it since they were embryos, heck even my dog has been, but she thought she knew better. What hubris.

I did tell her she was wrong, and she has many, many little wobbles like this, but she doesn't seem able to alter her behavior. She must be lonely, and I feel sorry for her poor husband because he tries to cut her off at the pass but she ignores him.

Its better to let them think that they have the upper hand and they are the most important people around, It saves on arguements and it is a waste of time and energy to try compete with them or kick the soapbox out from under them. I have a couple of family members like this and many a time eyes get rolled when the leap upon their high horse and impress us with their greatness.

As for me, I've never blown my own trumpet. In my career, I've always been a silent worker and never tried to be in the limelight resorting to foul means . Your inherent merits are to be recognized by wise people and not by making a big show -off.

Yes, my friend....I think we all know people like that...and no, I do not tell them about it...although sometimes I would really like to....LOL

I just do not see a reason to make someone feel bad...bacause of something I said....it would not change anything and therefore, be conterproductive....... so I would not normally do that!
