What would you do if you found an injured animal in the road?

Ok, about two days ago, me and my family found a baby blue jay that, i guess, fell from the nest. We didn't know what to do with it at first, but then we just decided to take him or her in because it looked like it was dying of hunger or something. And so, we took it in. We try feeding it bugs and bird food, but it wouldn't eat! It looked so adorable that we counldn't help but try and find it more food. And then, an hour later, it was dead. DEAD! We could't believe it! I felt so bad that we couldn't help it out at all. Then, one of our neighbor said that "if you touch that baby bird, the mama won't take it back." Once i heard that, i knew that the moment we took it in, it was doomed. Has this ever happened to you before? How?

I'm not sure if this is true but I read somewhere that birds do not have a great sense of smell. So you can pick them up no prob, but a baby dear, not so much. I once found an injured raccoon and trapped it and took it to the wild life rescue. My husband picked up an injured cat once, only to find out that it was a bobcat, it took off when he opened the door at home, he was lucky there. I've taken injured birds to the wildlife rescue as well.

It's so sad that you couldn't help that little bird... My friend actually did manage to save a baby bird once. When we were in 7th grade, a mother robin had made her nest on the window ledge outside our math class. The ledge was too small though, and one of the babies had already fallen out and fried on the hot roof one floor down! There was only one baby left, and when we checked back later, he had fallen out too, but he was still alive and he was all alone. We knew that if you touch the bird, the mother will reject it, so we put plastic gloves on and I climbed onto the roof and got him down. We fed him some of the hedgehog food in the science class since robins eat worms and not birdseed, we thought this would be better. He ate a little bit of it, and then we left him in the grass and waited in the bushes for a while. Eventually, the mama bird hopped up and started feeding the baby, so we knew he would be okay after that and we left him alone. Next time you find a baby like that, hide for a little while and wait to see if the mama comes to help it. Also, a little chick probably won't eat the birdseed because the mother has to chew the food up and spit it into the baby's mouth when they're small (it's kind of gross, but normal for a bird, I guess) I hope next time you try to help an animal it will be okay!
