1. creematee (1645) | 3 years ago | There are lots of flowers that butterflies are attracted to. Zinnas are the first thing that comes to mind. Nicotina & alyssum also. I'm drawing a blank right now as to what else there is. Sorry. If I think of more, I'll post and let you know.:)
Happy gardening!

creematee (1645) | 3 years ago | I remembered some more that I can add to the list... Echinacha--aka... black eyed susans, and purple cone flowers. I see other people suggested butterfly bush. These get really big, so make sure you have room for them. Have fun planning, and enjoy!!!

2. scarlet2000 (1345) | 3 years ago | You could go to your local greenhouse and purchase a butterfly bush. The golf course where I live has several of these planted by the driving range and when they are in full bloom there is a lot of butterfles. The butterfly bush is a beautiful plant. I would love to have but I have too many trees in my yard and they need a lot of sunshine and if they have enough room to grow they will grow very large.

4. sponkit (1362) | 3 years ago | Plant nectar-rich plants and your garden will never be without butterflies or moths. In fact, plant a cottage garden with loads of herbs and wildflowers as well as more traditional plants, butterflies will really love it. Plant as many as possible in sunny areas and include a Buddleia Bush or two for maximum butterfly appeal. Provide food plants as well for butterfly and moth caterpillars.
A nettle patch in a discreet part of the garden is also a must as it is important for certain caterpillar species of butterflies such as the Small Tortoiseshell and Peacock. Cut the patch back by half in mid-summer to provide new shoots for the mid-summer brood of caterpillars.
You could also try to plant flowers like Yarrow, Hollyhock, Snapdragon, Columbine, Shasta Daisy, Cosmos, Purple Coneflower, Chrysanthemum, Blanket Flower, Sunflower and Marigold so that your garden will attract butterflies.
Most important of all, if you wish to attract butterflies is to avoid the use of pesticides. Anyway, have a nice day!

5. feris0604 (285) | 3 years ago | I live in Asia. So, I can't tell you what type of flowering plants you should plant. Here, there are butterflies that I call 'garden butterflies' and 'wild butterflies'. The garden butterflies will be seen in the garden only and not even on any wild flowers or plants by the roadside. Those 'wild butterflies' will be everywhere in the bush, near the lakes, but not in the garden. I guess, butterflies know their territories too!

| 6. janidanielli (65) | 3 years ago | I was at the Real Canadian Superstore the other day and I saw a bag of wildflower seeds that were specifically for attracting butterflies and hummingbirds. Sorry I don't remember what it was called but I found it in the garden center. You might be able to find something like it in a nursery or at your local garden center. It looked like a pretty good mix of flowers so it would give you a lot of different ones to try all at once. Or you could just look at the ingredients to see what is in there.
