School's Out

My MAIN plan for this summer is to sleep in! With school out of session, we won't have to get up at 6 am every day.:)

I do plan to do activities with my children. We love making things together, so I will be doing arts and crafts with them. My daughter wants to work more on her crocheting skills, and since she is the oldest and goes to bed a bit later than the other two, we will use that time to crochet together. She also wants to work on learning more spanish, so I will be teaching her spanish.

My kids like to choose new activities in which they are interested, and we usually use summers to allow them to pick up new skills. My almost 6 year old son wants to learn french, so I will be teaching him french this summer. He also wants to work on learning to play soccer. He likes soccer, but has never actually played it. My daughter has also expressed interest in learning to cook, and we will be starting with small, easy to prepare things. The summer won't be much different for my four year old because we spend time together while the older two are in school working on the alphabet, counting, writing, reading and math. But, as far as interests go, he just wants to make general kids' crafts.

I also buy age/grade appropriate workbooks from places like K-Mart. I usually set aside some time each day for them to work in their workbooks to help them stay up on what they've learned so far in school and to get acquainted with the type of work that they will be doing in their next grade for the coming school year. My children actually like this because they know that it gives them a bit of an edge and helps them to grasp concepts more easily when their teachers get to them in the next school year.

We most likely won't be going on vacation in the summer. My husband works all the time and it's like pulling teeth to get him to take a day off, much less take time off that would be required to plan a vacation. However, the children and I will be planning some day trips to visit my mother who lives about an hour away. The kids love spending time with Grandma, but with school, there's not much time during the school year to be able to visit as often as we'd like.

What kind of plans do you have for the summer MrsWickham1?

We will be having alot of outdoors fun. Go swimming and play at the park with the kids. We plan on just enjoying the warmth.

I'm a grad student, so my summer plans pretty much consist of work, research, reading, and exam prep. But, I will be taking some time off for cottaging and going to stay with my boyfriend (although, I tend to work from his place too.)

I will be hitting the beach and maybe traveling to th islands for a few weeks to soak up the Caribbean sun.

Well, if I had children here, it would be harder to plan a Summer vacation. The schools here do not get out this yr. until almost the end of June, and since they start back around the 20th of August usually, this does not give much time for a family to spend together anywhere fun. But we do have Summer plans since it is just my husband and I. Or actually we are planning a Vacation in September. We are planning on going to New Jersey, NYC and Washington DC to meet a close Email friend of mine if everything goes right. It ought to be a lot of Fun.
