too afraid to talk to his daughter |
|
for those of you who didn't read my last post, i posted about my daughter saying to me one day how daddy had a big cagina. well i thought it was funny but then i told her it wasn't a vagina it was a peni$. well anyway i just said that's something that makes boys and girls different and she said ok. and that was the end of that. she's 3 by the way. anyway i told her dad the story. he said ya she was taking a bath and i went pee and she said that to me too. i asked did you correct her. did you tell her what it was. he's like no way. i don't get it. what's the big deal. why can't he say anything to her. he's like it caught me off guard. i said well it caught me off guard here it just came out of the blue while sitting in the living room. you were in the bathroom with her how off guard could that be. and then when the shock was over did you explain. so appearently that's only my job. how can i do a good job explaining about something i don't have. why can't he help with her questions. isn't it better to give a simple explanation of what it's called rather than ignore her or ignore what is going on.

1. wellamoose (1144) | 3 years ago | It seems like he could've just said something like that's how daddys go potty or something. I don't think ignoring the statement was the best thing to do. I mean, it didn't really solve anything, did it? No, she just came to you instead. I have always been very open and honest with my kids. If they asked me a question, even if it was uncomfortable, I would try to answer them so they could understand. A 3 year old doesn't need a long drawn out explaination. She just needed a short, straight-forward answer. If he's embarrassed by something like that, I don't even want to know how he is going to react to the really big stuff! He can't just run screaming from the room everytime she asks something embarrassing.

Sounds like you did a perfect job explaining it in terms a 3 year old would understand and be happy with. Good job mom!

7. Nadinest (1564) | 3 years ago | I think he was just being a man....leaving it all up to you. Men don't think things through, he didn't care about the correct vocabulery etc. Your little girl is going to be OK, with you explaining everything to her. Maybe father will be a little more understanding in the future.
