Book Covers Looking Like the Movies?  | |  This question applies to the American editions of the Harry Potter books, since I'm not familiar with the illustrations for other countries' covers.
The illustrations for all the American Harry Potter books were drawn by Mary Grandpre. If you take a look at your 6 covers, along with a picture of Book 7, you will notice the way Harry is drawn has changed a lot. When I saw the cover for Deathly Hallows, the first thing I noticed is Harry's face is VERY close to looking like a portrait of Daniel Radcliffe (who plays Harry in the movies). Would you say when the movies started coming out, the design of Harry gradually changed to match what people were seeing in the movies? I lined up all my books and saw that, starting with Book 4, Harry started to look more and more like Daniel.
Do you think this is just a coincidence? Or, maybe it's my imagination...

I think even the writing changed a bit at some point, almost keeping in mind what had to be done for the movies. But I do agree, the pictures have changed as time went on, especially after the movie tie in became so well known.

| | | 2. racheldarcy (2399) | 3 years ago |  The English covers definately are not based on Daniel Radcliffe and I cannot see much difference between the Harry on book 1 and the Harry and Book 7. Howeve, i have seen the USA cover for Book 7 and I agree with you that it does look a bit like Daniel Radcliffe. i have not seem the earlier US covers though so I cannot comment on whether the drawings have changed.

No it may be both, Daniel is growing but harry isnt so to keep the audience in par with the movie may be harry is given the look of daniel so that people doesnt have problems in mapping harry and daniel, but again it may be by shear imagination of yours and your strong mapping of harry and daniel you find these simmilarites. I couldnt comment on which fact is true because i havent seen the covers, but i will check it out.
