Copyright Infringement

I have noticed a few discussions where people are complaining their avatar or their recipes were deleted and they do not understand why. Clearly some people do not know the rules of copyright infringement. If you take copyrighted material that is not your own and publish it without compensating the original owner you can be sued. And web sites like this need to start to take this kind of thing seriously. Did you know a lot of the pictures on this website could cause legal problems for mylot? There are a lot of pictures of people, whom mylot doesn't have model releases for and if those people came on this website and saw their picture they could legally sue. I have also noticed people upload pictures from photoshop and microsoft images in travel that are copyright protected.

What do you think? Should mylot allow people to post copyrighted material on this web site without permission from the original owner? Should they allow pictures of people they do not have model releases for? Do you think it os okay for mylot to allow this because it is a social web site? After all, the law is the law and breaking it could get you into big trouble.
