What is your favorite classic Japanese monster movie? |
| |
| I loved as a kid (and still like them, occasionally) what I call the classic Japanese monster movies. What are your favorites? The original Godzilla(with Raymond Burr)? Mothra? Gammera? Ghidra the three headed monster? I have to say that the original Godzilla is still my favorite. | | | | | |

| | Well, to be honest, I am not much a guy for monster movies. I have watched Japanese monster movies before - the Godzilla you mentioned and Ultraman (is that Jap? But that's not horror lol.. but Gozilla seems to remind me of Ultraman :P) and I find them so-so. I just find them ok. I don't mind watching them, but neither will you see be rushing out to catch them when they are released. | | | | | | |

| | You have me on Ultraman, I don't know about him! Probably my enjoyment of the old genre movies is nostalgia on my part. I loved them as a kid, and looking at them again brings me down memory lane. Plus, they are somewhat cheesy, and the first Godzilla movie had a definite "social comment", as the monster sprung from radioactive material, an obvious comment on the use of the then new uses of nuclear power, weapons, etc. I agree with your assessment of the newer releases. Sequels or remakes (even 40 years or so later) rarely equal the original. | | | |

| | Hello Diecaster, I'm not a real big fan of the classic Japanese monster movies. The original "Godzilla" was pretty dynamic, for a movie of it's time. I still wonder what they used to create Godzilla's screaching/roaring sounds. I still think that's a pretty neet sound effect/ As kids, we watched them all, but I think we got our biggest kicks out of the sound dubbing! We'd laugh, and laugh at the out of sequence lip movement to the audio track. | | | | | | |

| | Ha! The off sync dubbing was really great. And Godzilla's signature half roar-half screech has got to be one of the most recognized sound bites out there in film nostalgia land. | | | |

| | The original Godzilla is probably the best of them all. Ironside aka Perry Mason solved the mystery from the confines of his wheel chair How good was he Pity the love scenes were not a bit more up to date There are issues there my mind needs to have resolved Get my drift? Speaking of which,do you remember those Drifter choc bars I have not seen them for ages. Do you still get them in America. I heard that the Russians bought all the old out of date ones Along with all the old baked Alaskas | | | | | | |
