Do you have a custom of taking photograph with someone who has just passed away?

wow.. wat a custom.. not heard of tht in my country.. but it is a bit freaky.. i would be really scared to go near a dead body..

Oh gosh. You mean people actually do that? That is so morbid!! We don't take pictures at funerals... that would be very disrespectful over here...

No there is no custom as such on our side of taking photographs of a deceased person. And I personally feel, that taking photograph of a deceased person, along with grieving relatives...does not appear to be appropriate. Because if you happen to see the photographs afterwards, you will again become sad and will lost in the memories.

I don't think I could do that to be honest I rather have a Photo of the Person how I remember them when they where alive

I have never heard about people taking photographs of their dead before. I have seen and touched my dead relatives, but i do not have photographs taken of them after they died. I like to remember them how they were - I remember their smiles, their laughter, their eyes. I think it is much nicer to remember them like that. I guess it is just completely new to me - and I find it hard to imagine what that would be like.

When my brother died five or six years ago, his Vietnamese wife hired a photographer to take pictures and she wanted his family to pose with the body. Americans don't have such a custom and it made our family very uncomfortable, however, we realized she had different customs and was grieving and we kept our feelings about it under check and most of us did as she asked. Having said that, I hope I never have to be in that kind of situation again. It was very uncomfortable and felt disrespectful to us, her husband's family.

I have heard of some people taking photos, to me it's a little macabre as I would prefer to remember them as they are but I do know of someone who took video of their sister who had died. It's definately not a well customed practice in the UK though!

Here in the U.S. we have such diversity, that there still are families that do this. In my family, we do not. I can see both sides, and sometimes wish we had done this, for the future, as you say you treasure your family history. I think that is wonderful that you can have that. You take care, mimpi.

my dear friend, what a peculiar tradition you have. It is always such an interesting thing discussing about our cultures..well, in ancient times it was a diffuse habit having a picture of the departed, a painting or a statue depending on the money and tastes of the family. Now we are used to create a little book of prayer with a picture of the departed while being alive and his or her favourite prayer or a prayer we choose for them..this is the current tradition..I chose with my mother a prayer to remember my grandmother who died some months ago and we wanted to use a photograph takes during her last birthday party..she was so happy that day and we were happy, too..so we wanted to remember the happy moments we shared together

to me it is important to remember this special person even into death.My whole family takes pictures and often I go to the grave site and take pictures of the grave.It is a sign of respect from me to the dead.I feel like I need that last photo before the earth claims them...
