Dr. Jack Kevorkian has helped over 130 people take their own lives.
The videotape that led to Kevorkians latest trial was sent to the show "60 minutes" by Dr. Kevorkian himself.
Kevorkian's attorney believes that the laws against assisted suicide were really on trial -- not necessarily Jack Kevorkian.
A group calling themselves Not Dead Yet has actively been campaigning against assisted suicide.
The trial that lead to Kevorkians conviction centered around the assisted suicide of a 52 year old man dying of Lou Gehrig's disease.
The Youk trial was the first tile that Dr. Kevorkian was found guilty of taking part in a death.
The Hemlock society is an active group that supports assisted suicide.
The article supporting the death penalty was written by Governor George E. Pataki.
The author of the supporting article claims that the death penalty has been a serious deterrent to crime in the state of New York.
New York suffered from Two major tradegides that spurred the passage of the death sentance by state legislature - the bombing of the World Trade Center, and the mass murder aboard a Long Island Railroad by Colin Ferguson
(That is now three, if you count 9/11)
The author of the article against the death penalty, I. M. Verisoree, believes that New York Law is a violation of the 8th amendment of the U. S. constitution.
Eighteen of 20 states with the highest murder rates have and use the death penalty.
When it comes to this topic. I really firmly believe.. if all quality of life has gone away, and the individual has no way of improving their situation, then they should be allowed to assisted suicide.
I however do believe in hanging and sticking through it as long as a person can, because medical science is discovering new treatments and studies every day, to help ease, or improve a situation about treating, or even curing, and preventing different types of seriously terminal illnesses.
