Another Accident!! Should I go to the ER??? |
| |
| I can always wind up hurting myself. Like 30 minutes ago I was walking to the kitchen and my brothers puppy had made a mess with the water on the floor. Well I did not see the water and of course I slipped and fell really hard! In the process I heard a loud crack and pop which scared the crap out of me but my knee really hurts it is throbbing and aching! It hurts to walk on it and move it much. My boyfriend told me to go to the emergency room but I dont want to sit there for like 8-10 hours just for a knee brace and Crutches. I think if I ice it and stay off it as much as possible it will get better. I am sure I only tore a ligament in my knee not broke it. What do you think? What would you do? I hate hospitals and I have no insurance either so I really dont want to go. :( Suggestions please......... | | | | | |

| | you have to have that check up. do not wait for the moment to come when it will be too late. it is better to know now what exactly has gone wrong and what would be the best way to deal with the whole thing. the earlier the better. | | | | | | |

| | If I was there with you, I would be calling an ambulance. If you heard a loud crack and pop, you more than likely either broke something or dislocated it. Is there any swelling or dicoloration? Even a torn ligament needs to be treated. Get your butt to the hospital now girl! | | | | | | |

| | I feel like that once...went home & called for a doctor. He suggested a pain killer and then put ice on it. About 5 hours later I was crying in pain as the pain killer wore off. I called tha ambulance and it turned out I had brioken my knee. I was able to walk on it but with alot of pain...so much pain I wet myself. I had to have surgery to fix it. Do what your BF suggested. | | | | | | |

| | well you need to put the ice on it right away, because it will swell and if you can call the emergency room and ask them if you need to be seen. | | | | | | |

| | Afraid you really should go...it could be dislocated or broken. My ex-hubby broke his left knee cap in 3 places just before we started dating. It hurt but not that bad so he finished work and drove his standard transmission car (think *clutch*) to my house before heading home for the night. The next morning his mom had to take him to the ER because his knee was swollen so badly that he couldn't bend it or get his normal pants on. So just because yours doesn't feel that bad doesn't mean it isn't broken. I know it's hard when you don't have insurance but it will cost less to get it checked now than to wait and do more serious damage. | | | | | | |

| | it's a good idea to call teh ER and ask them. do you have a regular doctor, because you can probably wait to see them tomorrow if you don't want to go to the er? Is there a free health clinic around or a county hospital? doesn't sound like you broke it, but you may have torn a ligament. try flexing your leg and straightening it out. there's a couple of other things your bf can do to test you if you don't want to go to the er - look up "anterior drawer test" in google and click on the first link. It has 6-7 exams that your bf or brother can do to figure out if you have a torn ligament or not. if you do, it'll probably need surgery - and you'll definitely need health insurance for that. take care. and try some ibuprofen meanwhile (as long as your not pregnant). | | | | | | |

| | Holy hamstrings, Batman! That's a great site, JackBravo. But how did you know what it's called? Anterior Drawer test? Who but a professional would know that? Wow...Now I know who to ask whenever I want to know a medical question! Awesome answer. | | | |

| | i think i will go in to the er tonight for x rays. How do you mean JackBravo, like how do you change your avatar picture? If that is what you mean go to the left side it is the link that says "Edit your preferences" then you can change your avatar there. If that is not what u meant let me know :) | | | |

| | glad you're gonna get xrays (but they only will show bone breaks, not ligament tears...just a forewarning). Anyway, tahnks for the advice. But i was actually talking about a background picture in the profile, not the avatar - you know some people have a picture in their background, not just a color? that's what I don't know how to do? | | | |

| | I've had some knee problems and operations so I feel for you. I have torn ligaments and had the knee pop out of place. It still occasionally as well and I just pop it back in and it's mostly okay. What I would suggest (probably a little late now) is ice it, put it in a brace or an ace bandage. Definetly start taking asprin, or ibeprofin both for the pain and also to help combat the swelling. Later, use heat on it, and you can even alternate between heat and cold every 20 minutes or so. Make sure you elevate your leg also. She how it is in a day or so and go to the doctor then if you still need to. | | | | | | |

| | I think you should really have to be check up by the doctor in order to find out what happened to you. Or another way for you to lessen the pain on you knee is just sit down. put any bottle at the floor.. And then roll your feet on the bottle, roll it back and forth. Trust me, its very effective. | | | | | | |

| | If anything is broken and it is not attended to you will have more serious problems later on and then it is really going to cost you. Insurance or not you need to have it looked at - sooner rather than later. I would suggest you have someone take you to the E.R. If you are in a lot of pain you will more than likely get it looked at pretty soon. My advice to you is go now. | | | | | | |

| | you definitely have to check it... sounds to me the injury is quite serious and you don't want to have a permanent damage on your knee which you will regret for the rest of your life because you didn't treat it early... your body is your asset and it is better to be safe than sorry... so please go to the ER and have it checked even though you hate it... as for insurance, your health is much more important than money... i am sorry to hear about your accident... please have it checked as soon as possible and update us on the result... take care... | | | | | | |
