| |  Oracle and sql are good ones and access is very easy and unusable to it.If you put database in your portal,don't use access because it is not secure.Everyone can easily hack your database.Oracle and sql is difficult to learn but they both have high performance.There are lots of different versions and types of sql based database systems which are most commonly known as mysql,postresql..etc.

Many would say Oracle but it may not be the best but the most popular.
What is the most popular may not be the best.
I heard IBM db2 is good may be supporting more Codd rules compared to oracle.
But personally I like Oracle.

| |  It actually depends on what you want. If you want huge enterprise applications and good security then Oracle is without doubt the best. But, then you pay through your nose for the software.
If you want something that is cost effective and want to handle medium to small applications then open source MySQL is the best database software for you.
