Who remembers Knots Landing? |
| |
| Knots Landing was a spin off from Dallas which initially centred around 4 couples living in a cul de sac in Knots Landing, a fictional beach community in California. Gary Ewing (Ted Shackelford) was the "black sheep" brother of the Ewing clan (of Dallas fame) who was married to ditsy Valene (Joan Van Ark), their adult daughter, Lucy (Charlene Tilton aka known as the poison dwarf), lived with the other Ewings in Dallas and never showed up in Knots Landing. This prime time soap opera ran from 1979 to 1993 for 14 seasons and Michele Lee who played Karen Fairgate Mckenzie was the only character who was in every episode from start to finish of the show. Some of the more famous people who appeared on the show were Nicolette Sheridan (who played Paige Matthews), Alex Baldwin (who played Valene's estraned brother Joshua Rush), Lisa Hartman (who played Ciji Dunne and Cathy Geary Rush), William Devane (who played Greg Sumner) and Donna Mills (who played the many times married Abby Fairgate Cunningham Ewing Sumner), Brian Austin Green (Brian Cunningham). Special famous guest stars also included: Helen Hunt, Halle Berry, Michael York, Dick Sargent, Billy Bob Thornton, Marcia Cross, Red Buttons, Howard Duff and Doug Savant. So did you watch this show? Do you remember any really bizarre storylines? One of the things they really made a mess of was when Bobby Ewing died in Dallas but a series later he was brought back from the dead (and the whole series was put down to a dream sequence)!!! Well, in Knots Landing, Gary Ewing was seen to mourn his brother's death but the fact that he came back to life in a new series was never tackled, it just was never mentioned again which always made me chuckle!

| | I used to love both Dallas and Knot's Landing but preferred Dallas to the spinoff. It seems that the spinoffs are never as long lasting as the original show. Both were interesting and on my agenda to watch each week. My kids were babies and this was usually when it was time to rock them to sleep. | | | | | | |

| | I know of such shows or soaps but I guess I was too young to really watch it and appreciate them. I think I would watch it in case there are reruns. | | | | | | |

| | No confusion! Just some great memories. I love Desperate Housewives and had forgotten that "Eddie" was also "Paige". Talk about getting stuck in a stereo type role. groan/giggle Susan | | | |

| | I know!!!! What a cliff hanger!!!! I would love to have some of these writers as my friends!!! They are soooooo twisted to think up such great things. What about Bre????? Would you do that for your daughter? Susan | | | |

| | Hmmm I don't have kids nor will I ever have any. BUT if I did, I think I might do what Bree is doing. Actually it was quite common in olden days for mothers to do that for their teenage daughters. In this day and age what with so many teenage pregnancies, no one is really that bothered with what society thinks anymore and girls as young as 12 or 13 are having babies quite openly aren't they? | | | |

| | Thank you for best response. My brother and his daughter are going through this right now, she is only thirteen. I am so confused about what she and my brother are deciding. I would like to take over their lives and make all the decisions for them but I can't do that. lol Susan | | | |

| | Sorry to hear your brother is going through this with his daughter! I hope they manage to find a solution that suits them all, but really, 13 is no age for a child to have a baby.... | | | |

| | You are soooooo right!!! 13, it kills me that I can do little but be near and give them support. I hate the descissions they are making but I can't run thier lives. grrrrrr If it was my daughter I am not sure how I would handle it but I do know I wouldn't want everyone's unasked for advice so I never say anything unless I am asked and then I am slow to answer. | | My wife, who was an ardent Dallas fan, used to watch Knots Landing. I used to catch small snippets of both shows, but I was usually working at home in the evenings with clients. I remember Terry Wogan used to make funny jokes about the "poison dwarf" on the radio each morning and create these silly story lines. I have recently see some of the old Dallas shows on cable TV and finding them quite enjoyable. When it was originally on though, I couldn't be bothered. Funny how tastes change as we get older :-) | | | | | | |

| | Thanks for your response. I have to admit to having caught a few episodes of Dallas on Sky channels in recent weeks and funnily enough it wasn't as appealing as it was all those years ago when I used to eagerly await each week's new episodes! Yes it is funny how tastes change as we get older LOL. x | | | |
