The Soothing Sounds of Running Water |
Alright People, this is a Discussion about Bladder Control.
Do you find that the sound of running water causes you to have the urge to urinate, or not? Does the sound of running water bother you in this way at all, or not? Do you know anyone who is bothered by this?
Why do you think that running water causes some people to have the urge to urinate?

11. renonanapam (835) | 3 years ago | There is nothing more tranquil than the sound of softly running water. I live 1 block from the Truckee River here in Reno and love walking along the river. But I do have to agree with you. It never fails. Got to go potty.

12. frecklelip334 (872) | 3 years ago | bathroom time eh transdisc! knew you'd slip it in sometime!! i don't know why it causes urges...but it helps when you're potty training your kid! it only affects me if i really gotta go. say we're at the mall, and i have to find a bathroom, and the fountains are running, then yep, MOVE OUT THE WAY PEOPLE! lol! otherwise i'm ok!
| |
| |
Transdisc (18489) | 3 years ago | I guess it would help with potty training, but the consequence of that is having to pee every time you hear running water for the rest of your life. I guess. That's just my hypothosis. I don't usually suffer from runningwaterpeeosiosis.

frecklelip334 (872) | 3 years ago | ouch good point! glad we only did that twice to him! he's a good potty-goer though, had no probs! i don't usually suffer from "runningwaterpeeosiosis" either fortunately! WHEW!!

13. missybal (3727) | 3 years ago | Sometimes I'll get up and go to do the dishes and I didn't have to go until I heard that water running... so I would have to say yes.
| |
| |
Transdisc (18489) | 3 years ago | Doing the dishes and having to go. That's rough, missybal. Do you go ahead and go, then return to the dishes? When you're done with the dishes, would you have to go again?

15. suspenseful (17126) | 3 years ago | It's to do with age (50 and over) and whether you are a man or woman. It also depends on whether you need to go or not. If you have a weak bladder which is common in women over a certain age, you have to hold yourself and hope you can find a washroom (not very common if you are walking down a residential street.) Obviously you are not at that certain age yet, so to you it is a great mystery but to us who are over 50, some of us have to put up with it. And it usually depends on whether it is a tap or rain and if you do not need to go, you won't.
| |
| |
Transdisc (18489) | 3 years ago | Actually, suspenseful, I have noticed this in younger people for all of my life. Some people just find that they have the urge to go when presented with running water. As you point out, not rain.
In my experience, I don't think that it's limited to those over a certain age, although as we age it may be something that each of us find ourselves contending with.
Thanks.

16. zuri25 (1085) | 3 years ago | It's not the sound that usually gets to me. When I'm doing dishes, the moment I put my hands in the water I feel like I have to pee. When I need to give a urine sample for the doctor and I can't go on cue, I turn on the sink and put my fingers in the water and that usually does the trick for me. I have no idea why this happens.
| |
| |
Transdisc (18489) | 3 years ago | This is a good distinction, zuri25. Actually immersing a part of yourself into the water triggers the need to go. It sounds like you've figured out a way to use this self awareness to your advantage at times. Thanks!:)

18. whyaskq (5099) | 3 years ago | I have no heard of anyone getting the urge upon hearing sounds of running water.
The soothing sounds of running water reminds me of the serenity of the waterfall. I would not be bothered by it but attracted to it. I just like the rhythm of falling water.

Transdisc (18489) | 3 years ago | I am also attracted to the sounds of a waterfall, whyaskq. It is one of my favorite sounds.:)

| 19. MWilliams216 (46) | 3 years ago | I think it is all psychological. i think that the sound of running water reminds us how urine sounds going into the toilet water.
| |
| |
Transdisc (18489) | 3 years ago | A good, simple explanation. Thanks, MWilliams216.
| |
Transdisc (18489) | 3 years ago | Hmm. This brings up another thought. I wonder if people who only urinate on dry sand, or perhaps on rocks react when they hear similar sounds?

20. MJLami (491) | 3 years ago | In my opinion it changes with age. When I was young I used to laugh when my mother turned on the water faucet and had to run to the bathroom. Now that I'm older I can understand it a little better. I'm still not there yet but what happened to my bladder control with coughing and sneezing? It's got to be age!
| |
| |
Transdisc (18489) | 3 years ago | I've also noticed differences as I age, MJLami. Thanks for sharing.:)
